Shirley May (Bliss) Ekberg formerly of West Chelmsford and Clermont, Fl. died March 29, 2012 at the Town and Country in Lowell.
She was engaged at 19 and married at 20 to her high school sweetheart and soul mate the late Alfred "Red" Ekberg who died December 17, 1997.
She was the daughter of the late Lawrence S. and Cora C. Bliss. She was raised in Avon and graduated from Avon High School with the class of 1942.
During World War II she worked at the Hingham Arsenal and later at the Brockton National Bank. After moving to Chelmsford in 1963 she worked part-time as an accountant at the North Chelmsford Hardware Store, and fulltime being a loving mother and devoted wife.
She was a past member of the Methodist Church in East Bridgewater and the West Chelmsford Methodist Church in Chelmsford, MA. Shirley enjoyed bowling, and was a past member of the Alpine Bowling League in Chelmsford, MA.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna Lynne McDonough of Biddeford, ME and Debra Ekberg of Pepperell, MA; a sister, Mildred Johnson of Bridgewater; 4 grandchildren: Michael, Joseph, Sarah, and Nicholas, and 10 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 106 MIDDLESEX ST., N. CHELMSFORD, MA. Burial in the Fairview Cemetery, Chelmsford. There will be no visiting hours. Not sure you will remember me, I'm Shirley and Al Gaumond's daughter. Debbie I helped you sew a skirt, when you were in grade school.
I know how proud your Mom and Dad were of both of you. They were both good people and highly thought of by their friends and neighbors. I'm sorry to hear you have lost your Mom. I hope life has given you lots of happy memories of both your Mom and Dad to help you through this loss.

So sorry to hear of the passing of your Mom. I just found out today, April 13th, 2012. I have fond memories of Red and Shirl and all the good times we had @ our cottage on Round Pond in Plymouth. Cherish those memories and make the same for your own children. Love...Cousin Scott Ocala, FL.
