Obituary for

Alma M. Gleason

of Chelmsford

Alma Marie (D’Arezzo) Gleason died on April 7, 2009 at Saints Medical Center in Lowell.

She was the wife of James R. Gleason who died on September 25, 2000; they were married for 55 years.

Born in Lowell, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Guiseppina (DeAngelis) D’Arezzo.

She graduated from St. Peter’s and Lowell High School and also attended Business and Management courses at UMass Lowell and Northeastern University. In recognition of being a Heart Saver by performing CPR and saving two lives, she was given a Proclamation by then Governor Michael S. Dukakis and a plaque given by Dr. Timothy Johnson, medical editor of WCVB-TV channel 5 Boston.

She worked as a secretary at Boston Naval Shipyard during World War II and forty years at the Prince-Borden Macaroni Company as a purchasing Manager until retirement. She loved to cook, garden and winter in Hawaii as well as baby-sit her great great nephews. She was a member of the Blessed Virgin Society at former St. Peter’s, Chelmsford Senior Center, AARP and The Florenica girls at the International Institute of Lowell.

Survived by son Richard J. Gleason of Westford; two sisters Angelina Dirubbo of No. Chelmsford and Hilda Nahill of Salem, NH; Nieces, Linda Biro and her late husband Jack of No. Chelmsford, Barbara Nahill Agazarian and her husband David of Salem, NH, Nancy Nahill Monti and her husband Jeff of Cumberland, RI; Nephews, Michael D’Arezzo and his wife Debbie of Methuen, Thomas Nahill and his wife Robin of Amherst, NH; Great Nieces, Lisa Hyland and husband Michael of Tyngsboro, Chelsea Nahill of Amherst, NH; Great Nephews, Anthony D’Arezzo and wife Beth of Reading, Michael D’Arezzo of Methuen, Andrew and his wife Pam of Methuen and Daniel Nahill of Amherst, NH; Great Great Niece, Kara D’Arezzo of Reading; Great Great Nephews, Matthew D’Arezzo of Reading and Patrick, Dillon and Tyler Hyland of Tyngsboro for whom she babysat. Also survived by great friends Micky and Vinnie Luminello and Rose Viggiano.

She was the sister of the late Rose (D’Arezzo) Peccerillo and Anthony D’Arezzo and his late wife Marie. She was the aunt of the late Joanna Scannell and her husband Bill of Boca Raton, FL, Josie Thibodeau, Richard P. D’Arezzo.
