Obituary for

Rev. Romeo Lucien Jean

Formerly of Nashua

Rev. Romeo L. Jean, 86, of Montreal, Canada died Thursday April 23, 2009 at his home at Basil Moreau.

Born in Nashua, NH on February 7, 1923, he was a son of the late Thomas and Elise (Archambault) Jean. He was raised in Nashua and graduated from Infant Jesus School in 1937. He graduated from Holy Cross Seminary in Montreal, Canada. He entered the Novitiate of the Holy Cross Congregation on August 5, 1942. He took his first vows on August 15, 1943.
      
On Dec. 18, 1948 he was Ordained in Manchester, NH by Bishop Matthew Bradley. His first Mass was midnight Mass on Christmas Eve in 1948. Father Romeo Jean served as Department Head of the English Dept. at St. Laurent College where he taught English for over 15 years. He earned his Master’s Degree in English from Columbia University in 1953.

He served as assistant pastor at St. Laurent Parish where he also taught catechism. In 1968 He returned to the Diocese of Manchester. He served at Ste. Marie’s Parish and St. Theresa Parish in Manchester from 1968 until 1970. From 1971 to 1976, He was stationed at St. Aloysius Church (St. Louis Church) in Nashua, NH. From 1977 to 1979, he was an assistant pastor at Infant Jesus Church in Nashua, NH. From 1979 until 1984 he began serving as a Chaplain (locally) at the Memorial Hospital, Greenbriar Nursing Home, Courville Nursing Home all of Nashua, NH and at Fairview Nursing Home in Hudson, NH. In 1984 he returned to Montreal and served as Chaplain at St. Mary’s Hospital and at the Villa Medica and rehabilitating Hospital. In 1993 He retired from Chaplain life, but worked part time at St. Joseph‘s Shrine and at the Brothers of Charity.

He loved returning to Nashua and vacationing on Cape Cod with his family.

He is survived by four brothers and a sister in-law, Gerald Jean of Merrimack, NH, Rev. Sylvio Jean of Canada, Lionel and Lucille Jean of Nashua, NH and Claude Jean of Nashua; two sisters, Rita Jean and Claudette Jean of Nashua; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother and three sisters in-law, Robert and Luitgard Jean of New York, Ruby Jean of Merrimack, NH and Mary Jean of Nashua, NH.
