Mrs. Catherine "Winnie" (Welby) Leahy, 83, of Lowell died Tuesday April 11, 2006 at the D'Youville Manor Nursing Home in Lowell, MA.

She was married to the late Paul F. Leahy who died on July 3, 1984.

Born in Cambridge, MA on January 8, 1923, the daughter of the late James and Catherine (Walsh) Welby. She graduated from Boston Latin High School with the Class of 1941.

She worked for the Town of Tewksbury for many years as an Aide in Social Services before retiring.

She was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Lowell.

She is survived by a daughter and son in-law, Mary and James McCann of Sudbury, MA; seven sons and five daughters in-law, Dennis and Jill Leahy of Atkinson, NH, Philip and Jerilyn Leahy of N. Attleboro, Ma, William and Janet Leahy of Chatham, MA, Thomas Leahy of Colorado Springs, CO, Paul and Dee Leahy of Londonderry, NH, Gregory Leahy of Sudbury, MA, Daniel Leahy and Judith Soma of Shirley, MA and 13 grandchildren Jennifer Leahy of Boston, MA, Carolyn and her husband Michael (Leahy) Vargas of Charlotte, NC, Ross Downing, Jay Downing both of N. Attleboro, MA, Rachael Paulsen of Aurora, CO, Katelyn Leahy of Atkinson, NH, James McCann of Sudbury, MA, Emma Leahy of Chatham, MA, Ryan McCann and Brendan McCann both Sudbury, MA, Patrick Leahy and Joshua Leahy both of Londonderry, NH, Hannah Leahy of Shirley, MA.

She was predeceased by her brothers and a sister, Thomas Welby of Malden, James Welby of Middletown, RI, Robert Cole of Malden, MA, Gerard Cole of Malden, Lawrence Cole of Woburn and Patricia Kelley of Medford, MA.
