 Mr.
Joseph J. Costa Jr., 78 of Chelmsford, MA died Friday,
February 8, 2008 at his home unexpectedly.Known to
his family and friends as “Big Joe” and “Uncle Joe”, he
was married to Mrs. Elizabeth (Bowers) Costa with whom
he celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary
on September 11, 2007.
Joe was born in Lowell, MA on November 9, 1929, the
son of the late Joseph and Maria (Mederios) Costa, both
originally from the Azores. He attended Lowell High
School and proudly served with the U.S. Army in the
First Calvary Artillery during the occupation of Japan
following World War II.
Joe retired in 1998 from Boston Scientific
Corporation of Watertown, MA; he worked for nearly 20
years at Sackner Products in Dracut, MA.
He was a former communicant of St. Anthony’s Church
in Lowell, MA. He enjoyed going to Atlantic City in New
Jersey, gardening, and spending time with his
grandsons. Joe was an avid fan of New England sports
teams, including the Patriots.
Besides his loving wife he is survived by a son,
Joseph M Costa and his wife Lisa, along with two
grandsons, Jeremy and Casey, all of Franklin, MA; two
sisters, Albina Cardoza of Lowell, MA and Julia Inacio
and her husband Joe, both of California; two brothers,
Frank Costa of Meriden, CT and John Costa of California;
and two sisters-in-law, Barbara Velasco of Chelmsford,
MA and Ruth Bowers of Beverly, MA. Joe is also survived
by many nieces and nephews as well as grand-nieces and
nephews, among them are: Karen Velasco-Duffy and her
sons Alex and Jaron, Virginia (Bowers) Doherty and her
son William, and Alan Bowers.

p.m. Funeral Wed. at 10AM from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME
106 MIDDLESEX ST. N.CHELMSFORD, with a funeral Mass at
11AM at St. Anthony’s Church in Lowell, MA. Burial in
Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford, MA. Memorials may be
made in his name to the American Heart Association
