Obituary for

Robert Gibson Elwell

of Chelmsford, MA

Mr. Robert Gibson Elwell, 76, A longtime resident of Chelmsford died Monday morning, February 9, 2009, after a brief illness.

He was the beloved husband of Kathleen (McHugh) Elwell for 31 years.    

He was born in Boston on April 8, 1932, the son of the late Adrian and Ann (Orr) Elwell.

Mr. Elwell  was a graduate of Belmont High School in Belmont.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Elwell worked as a Senior Vice President at Shawmut & Fleet Bank of Boston, and District Manager for Household Finance Corp.

He was an avid golfer and former member of the Marlboro Country Club, where he played with his wife, Kathleen and many friends. He was especially proud of achieving three holes in one, he enjoyed making golf clubs for himself, his wife and friends.

Over the years, he enjoyed many other hobbies, including, fishing, hunting, archery, cross country skiing, and vegetable gardening.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, David Elwell of Dracut, Kenneth Elwell of Chelmsford, two brothers, Bruce Elwell and his wife, Louise of Burlington, Donald Elwell of Belmont; step-mother, Arlene Elwell of Bushnell, FL, a sister-in-law, Margaret and her husband Allan Sherwood of CT.

He was the brother-in-law of the late Mary Jane and David Hall of CT.
