
David B. Grand, the beloved husband of Carla Jan (Willmington)
Grand and the devoted father of Ross and Zachary Grand,
died peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 5th,
2008. David truly lived life, his family
was his pride and joy, he never met a stranger, and he
never failed a friend.
David was
born in Lowell on September 14, 1951, the son of Ernest
J. and Mary (Sissy) (O’Malley) Grand, who survive him.
He was raised in the Belvidere section of Lowell and
graduated from Lowell High School. He went on to
receive a Bachelor’s degree from Lowell State College
and an MBA from USC in 1981.
David
enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1974. He
was a graduate of Officers Candidate School in Quantico,
Virginia and the Naval Post-Graduate School in Monterey,
California, and served as a USMC Captain until 1983.
David married
Carla in May 1988 and would have celebrated their 20th
anniversary this year. He was a devoted husband and
father and a vibrant member of the Westford community.
Dave was a dedicated and respected volunteer, coaching
his sons’ baseball, football, wrestling, lacrosse and
soccer teams. He served on the board of Westford Pop
Warner Football. David attended St. Catherine of
Alexandria and United Methodist Church in Westford.
David was
employed by Raytheon for 27 years, most recently as a
Program Manager in the Integrated Defense System
Division in Tewksbury, MA.
In addition
to his wife, sons and parents, David is survived by his
brother James E. Grand of San Francisco, CA; two
sisters, Nancy Neglia and her husband Dr. Tom Neglia of
San Diego, CA; and Karen McDowell and her husband
Michael McDowell of Dracut, MA; his mother and
father-in-law Ann (Shults) and Gordon Willmington of
Grand Rapids, MI; two sisters-in-law and their husbands;
Colleen and Craig York and Beth and Bill Hogan of Grand
Rapids, MI. Nieces and nephews: Meghan and Christopher
McDowell of Dracut, MA; Sarah, Emilie and Anna York and
Connor and Sophie Hogan all of Grand Rapids, MI.

THURSDAY 2 – 4pm and 7 – 9 pm. Funeral FRIDAY at 9:00
from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 106 MIDDLESEX STREET,
CHELMSFORD, with a funeral service at 10:00 am at St.
Catherine’s Church in Westford. Burial in Pine Grove
Cemetery, Westford. As an expression of sympathy and to
honor Dave’s dedication to the youth of the community,
friends have established an education account for Ross
and Zachary Grand. In lieu of flowers, donations can be
