Margaret (Hartigan) Doherty, 96,
of No.Chelmsford and a Lowell native died January 29, 2010 at Saints
Medical Center in Lowell. She was the wife of Leonard G. Doherty who
died September 28, 1995.
She was born in Lowell, MA on April 29, 1913, a daughter of John and
Bridget (O’Looney) Hartigan. She attended St. John the
Evangelist Church in No.Chelmsford and was a member of their Holy
Rosary Sodality for many years.
She is survived by two sons, Leonard E. Doherty and his wife, Kathryn
of Yardley, PA, and Lawrence Doherty and his wife, Barbara of Stratham,
NH; two daughters, Susan Dwyer and her husband Kevin, and Margaret
Yavarow all of Lowell; nine grandchildren, Susan Raimondi of
Washington, PA, David Doherty of Croton on Hudson, NY, Larry Doherty of
No. Hampton, NH, Thomas Doherty of Lowell, James Doherty of Hampton,
NH, Martha Marshall of York, ME, Kevin Dwyer Jr. of Waltham, Erin Lally
of Chelmsford and Faye Yavarow of Lowell; 11 great grandchildren; two
sisters in-law, Elizabeth Hartigan of Andover, MA and Carolyn Hartigan
of Pepper Pike,Ohio; one brother in-law, George Wilson of Tewksbury;
and many nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late John Hartigan, Theresa Hartigan,
Msgr. Edward Hartigan, Lawrence Hartigan, Thomas Hartigan, Joseph
Hartigan, Mary Dean Dean, Susan Springer, Rita Kennedy and Eileen
Wilson.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. John the Evangelist
Church in N. Chelmsford. Burial was held at St. Mary’s Cemetery,
Tewksbury. Those who wish may make memorials in her name to the St.
John the Evangelist Church Building Fund, 115 Middlesex St. N.
