Sylvia (Beaudion) Hughes, 71, of
Tyngsborough, formerly of Acton
died Saturday
January 10, 2009 at the Lowell General Hospital
after a brief illness.
She was married to the late
Russell
O. Hughes who died April 6, 2007.
Born in Concord, MA
on January 7, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and
Georgianna
(Benoit) Beaudion. She was raised in Acton
and
graduated from Acton-Boxborough High School
with the
class of 1956.
Sylvia was an outstanding field
hockey, basketball and softball player. She registered over 1500 points
in the
1950’s. Her softball team went to the National Tournament every year
she played
from 1959-1965. She was selected All-World Centerfielder from 1961 to
1964. She
was selected All –American 1964 to 1966 for Basketball. She was the
first woman
inductee to Acton Boxborough High School’s
Hall of Fame.
Sylvia worked as a bookkeeper
for many years and retired in 2003 from Dabco painting of Lowell.
She enjoyed playing golf and was
the Club Champion at the Nabnasset Lake Country Club 1970-1971, the
Clearwater
(FL) Golf Course in 1974, the Apple Valley Country Club in Chelmsford
1979-1980 and the Maynard Country
Club 1968, 1969, 1982, 1985 and 1986.
She is survived by her son,
Scott Hughes of Westford and her step-son Russell Hughes Jr. of Merrimack,
NH.

be held
on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106
MIDDLESEX ST.
