Mrs. Marie R. (McKinnon) Almeida of Lowell, died Monday, July 20, 2009 at Lowell
General Hospital after a long illness.
She was happily married to Mr. Herman R. Almeida with whom she had
celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary and renewed their wedding
vows this past Saturday July 18,2009.
Born in Cambridge, MA on September 29, 1930, the daughter of the late
Donald and Rose (Tremblay) McKinnon. She attended Cambridge
Ridge & Latin School and was a graduate of Lowell High School
with the class of 1948.
Marie was an exceptional seamstress, she was employed in her early
years as a tailor with Sears in Lowell, but was most happy volunteering
at the Lowell Textile Museum and the Lowell Folk Festival. She worked
as a Paraprofessional for the Lowell Public Schools at the Robinson,
Laura Lee and Bailey Schools until her retirement in 1999.
She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church of N. Chelmsford
She was a former member of St. Peter’s Church Sodality, and donated
monthly to worthy causes, such as St. Jude’s Children and the Dana
Farber’s Jimmy Fund, and Post Office Food Bank. She was an avid
cribbage player and enjoyed bingo, she loved camping and swimming.
Marie was most happy spending quality time with family and friends but
especially with her buddy, Herm.
Besides her loving husband, Herm, she is survived by a son and
daughter-in-law, Richard and Diane Almeida of Lowell, five daughters
and three sons-in-law, Dorothy and Robert Baillargeon of Lowell, Carol
Guarino of Nashua, NH, Linda Almeida of Lowell, Sandra and Hans Hoffman
of Virginia, Judith and David Ross of Lowell, six cherished
grandchildren, Jack Major, Robert Ross, Derek Ross, Nicholas Ross,
Marie Baillargeon, April Almeida, two great-grandchildren, Cameron Ross
and arriving soon a baby girl Miss Ross, she is also survived by her
faithful cat, her little buddy, Shadow.
She was the mother-in-law of the late John “Jay” Guarino of Nashua, NH
who died March 28, 2008, and sister of the late Dorothy McKinnon of
Cambridge, MA.

Visiting hours Friday 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral Saturday at 9 a.m. from the
DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD, with a funeral Mass at
10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church in N. Chelmsford. Cremation
at Merrimack Crematory, Merrimack, NH. Memorials may be made in her
name to the Lowell General Hospital Cancer Center, 295 Varnum Ave.
