 Mr. Carl Stuart Chaney, 93, of Dunstable, MA died Wednesday July 16, 2008 at the Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer, MA.
He was married to the late Mrs. Ruth E. (Kennedy) Chaney who died September 5, 1997.
Carl
was born in Everett, MA in 1915, the son of the late Eugene E. and
Viola (Bowers) Chaney. He was a graduate of Lowell High School
with the class of 1933, and the Stockbridge School of Agriculture at
UMass Amherst, with an associate degree in horticulture with the Class
of 1935.
He was
a cofounder of Merrimack Valley Apiaries, Inc., which used honeybees in
crop pollination. He worked as the custodian for the Dunstable
Town Hall, the Dunstable Congregational Church, and the Swallow Union
School. Mr. Chaney was the Assistant Fire Chief of Dunstable for many
years, as well as a Dunstable Cemetery Commissioner.
He was a member of the Dunstable Congregational Church.
Mr.
Chaney was an Eagle Scout with Troop 28 in Dunstable, and was a member
of the Townsend Military Band, the Ayer Fireman’s Band, and was
considered a fine trumpet player in the Dunstable area.
He
is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lt.Col. Eugene S.
Chaney, USAF (Ret), and his wife Sylvia of Geneseo, IL, Alan E. Chaney
of Dunstable, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren as well as
several close family friends.

graveside service was held at Central Cemetery, Dunstable. A public
memorial service will be held at a later date. For those that wish
