Obituary for

Edward J. Rafferty

Formerly of Chelmsford

Edward J. Rafferty, 64, of Aiken, SC died Saturday July 5, 2008 at his home surrounded by his family after a long illness.

He was the husband of Virginia “Ginny” (Dusick) Rafferty with whom he would have celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary on August 19.     

Born in Boston, MA on June 30, 1944, he was the son of the late Edward F. and Helen A. (Hackler) Rafferty. He was raised in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School with the Class of 1962. He graduated from Boston College with the Class of 1966 with a degree in Political Science

He served in the Vietnam War with the US Army 47th infantry, attaining the rank of Captain. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.

A resident of Chelmsford, MA for over 20 years, Mr. Rafferty recently retired to Aiken, South Carolina. He worked as a Sales Manager for UARCO Business forms for 25 years. Most recently he owned his own business “Proforma Document Solutions”.

He was an active member of Chelmsford BNI for 10 years, the Boston College Alumni Association, the American Legion Post 0437, VFW 564 of Lake Hopatcony, NJ and Mobile Riverine Force Association. He was an avid fan of Boston College Sports, the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots and Golf.

He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church where he taught CCD and was an active member of the finance council and Stewardship committee. Most recently he was a communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Church in Aiken, SC.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son in-law, Karen and TJ Keighley of Stratham, NH; two sisters and a brother in-law, Kitty Rafferty of Watertown, MA, Gee Gee and Philip Kaufman of Wilmington, MA; a granddaughter Neva Keighley; three nieces, Pamela Thomas Smith, Katelyn Kaufman and Sarah Grossman; two nephews, Eddie Kaufman and Adam Grossman; and best friend, Bobby Sheehan.
