Obituary for

Janet McPherson Scheele

of Westford, Formerly of New York

Janet McPherson (Davie) Scheele died at the Heritage Manor in Lowell, MA on Thursday July 17, 2008. She was 88 years old.
        
She was born in Brooklyn, New York and lived until she was 7 years old in a cold –water flat with her parents, 7 brothers and sisters. It was a big step-up when they moved to a house in South Ozone Park. Janet was an excellent student and graduated from high school at the age of 16. She went on to take some courses at a local business college. Always her greatest interest was words.

World War II began when Janet was 20 and her soon-to-be husband, William A. Scheele, was inducted into the Army. On December 1, 1942, Janet and Bill were married during a weekend leave.

Janet worked in New York City as a secretary while Bill was in the service. After the War, Janet and Bill settled into a house in Uniondale, NY and raised two children, George and Lois. While they were in school, Janet had several secretarial jobs as well as volunteer jobs such as Girl Scout leader for 10 years, Since the age of 13 she loved to sew and when Janet and Bill moved to Hampton Bays, NY after his retirement in 1970, she became the well known for this talent. Janet also served as secretary for the Tiana Shores Association in Hampton Bays, New York. Since 2000 she has resided with her daughter, Lois Maurer and son in-law in Westford, MA.

She is survived by her daughter and son in-law, Lois and Ken Maurer of Westford, MA; her son and daughter in-law, George R. and “Andie” Scheele of Temecula, CA; 2 granddaughters, 5 grandsons, 4 great granddaughters and 1 great-grandson; one sister, Mary White and many nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by her siblings, Elizabeth Robertson, Ruth Dobenecker, George Davie III, Alexa O’Donnell, Donald Davie and Robert Davie.

170 Old Westford Rd. Chelmsford, MA. Burial Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, NY.  In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made in her name to the Trinity Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
