Charles F.  Griffin

Korean War Veteran

Charles Francis Griffin, 76, of Nashua formerly of Lowell died Thursday June 4, 2009 at the Concord Hospital in Concord, NH.

He was the husband of the late Jacqueline P. (Scanlon) Griffin who died January 24, 1999.

Born in Boston, MA on August 11, 1932, he was the son of the late Charles and Lois (Simmonds) Griffin. Charles was raised and educated in Dorchester, MA.

During the Korean War, he served in the US Marines attaining the rank of Corporal.

Mr. Griffin worked as a Security Specialist at Mitre Corp. in Bedford for over 30 years prior to retiring in 1992. After his retirement, he worked as a bookkeeper for R&R Auto Body in Dracut until Dec. of 2008 due to illness.

He previously had owned and operated Charlie’s Esso Gas Station in Beverly, MA.

He loved traveling especially to Aruba and Las Vegas. He also loved to go to Foxwoods Casino and spending his summer vacation on Prince Edward Island with Brother Billy and his wife and cousins Donald Simmonds and his wife Nan Simmonds.

He is survived by two daughters, Sharleen and her husband, Robert Carey of Nashua, NH, Mary and her husband, David Foley of Nashua, NH; two sons, Valmore J. Griffin of Billerica and Charles and his wife, Lisa (Ryder) Griffin of Lowell, MA; a brother, Charles Wm.and his wife, Kathleen Griffin of Hudson, NH; seven grandchildren, Charles Griffin, Brian Griffin, Michael Griffin, Sean Griffin, Samantha Griffin, Valerie Griffin and Rachel Carey; a great granddaughter, Brianna Griffin.
   
At his request, there are no visiting hours. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Tewksbury, MA. For those that wish, Memorials may be made in his name to the VA Medical Center 135, 718 Smyth Rd.
