Obituary for

Edward M. Rooney

of North Chelmsford, MA 

Retired Chelmsford Police Officer

Mr. Edward M. Rooney of North Chelmsford died peacefully, Saturday morning, June 6, 2009 at Lowell General Hospital.

He was happily married to Mrs. Ann (McAndrew) Rooney with whom he celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on May 18, 2009.   

Edward was born in Chelmsford on November 11, 1927, the son of the late David E. and Marguerite (Nickerson) Rooney, and stepson of the late Roland Heald.  He was raised in Chelmsford and was educated in the Chelmsford Public Schools.

Mr. Rooney was employed for more than twenty-five years as a Police Officer with the Chelmsford Police Department, until his retirement in 1988.

He was a faithful communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in N. Chelmsford.

Mr. Rooney was a member of International Brotherhood of Police Officers and the Massachusetts Policemen Association. He was an avid New England Patriots fan, he enjoyed playing golf and tending his garden, but was especially happy spending quality time with family and friends.

Besides his loving wife, Ann, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Patricia A. Rooney of Westford, a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen A. and William F. Grant of Andover, four grandchildren, Kelly A. Murray and her husband, Matthew, of Hingham, Megan P. Hanes and her husband, Michael, of Jacksonville, FL, Tracie A. Krueger and her husband, Christopher, of Tewksbury, and Keith W. Grant and his wife, Anne, of Georgetown, MA, six cherished great-grandchildren, Matthew Owen Murray and Cooper Michael Murray both of Hingham, Jared William Krueger of Tewksbury, Lily Ray Murray of Hingham, Madelyn Marie Grant of Georgetown, and Maura Lillian Krueger of Tewksbury, as well as several nieces, nephews and close family friends.

He was the brother of the late David E. Rooney of CA, Mary Lane and Claire Linstad Woodhead both of Chelmsford, Alice Heald of CT, and Marguerite Heald Gowin of TX.

ROONEY, Edward M. Rooney of N. Chelmsford died June 6, 2009. Visiting hours Monday 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral Tuesday at 10 a.m. from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD, with a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Church, N. Chelmsford. Burial in Fairview Cemetery, N. Chelmsford.
