Obituary for

John (Jack) A. McDowell

Formerly of Lowell

John (Jack) Arthur McDowell, 74, of Nashua, NH died Monday, March 16, 2009 surrounded by his family.  He was happily married to Rosemary B. (Rynne) McDowell with whom he would have celebrated 54 years of marriage on July 31st.  He was a devoted father and grandfather to 3 sons and 5 grandchildren.  

Born in Lowell, MA on January 8, 1935, the son of Samuel and Grace (Plummer) McDowell.  Jack was a 1954 graduate of Lowell High School, where he played football with great pride.

In 1995, Jack retired after 40 years of service, as a Tool & Gauge Inspector with Raytheon Corporation of Andover.  He had many pastimes including golf, summers at the beach in Maine, winters in Florida, and enjoying the outdoors.  One of his favorite activities was playing golf with the Tyngsboro Friday Night Golf Group and with the Groton Senior Golf League.  Jack’s Lowell roots were an important part of his life.  He remained connected in many ways but mostly by enjoying Saturday breakfast with his friends and family at the Owl Diner. 

Known as Papa Jack to the Nashua High School Panther’s Ice Hockey Team and as a grandfather to many others, he was every team and child’s number one fan.  He attended every hockey, soccer, baseball, and football game possible. 

Jack was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Nashua, NH. He was a member of the IBEW Local 1505, lifetime member of the Lowell Elks, and a member of the United Commercial Travelers.

Besides his wife he is survived by three sons and their wives, William and Lisa McDowell of Nashua, NH, Michael and Kathleen McDowell of Jupiter, FL, John and Susan McDowell of Nashua, NH; five grandchildren, Erin, Sean, Kayla, Michael and Kyle McDowell; two sisters, Patricia McDowell of Lowell, MA and Carol McInnis of Derry, NH; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, William (Bill) McDowell who died on December 30, 2006.

Funeral Saturday March 21st at 9AM at the Immaculate Conception Church, 216 E. Dunstable Rd. Nashua, NH. Burial in Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell.
