Mrs.
Ruth Ann (Callahan) Nunnery of Lowell, MA died Monday
evening, March 6, 2006 at D’Youville Senior Care in
Lowell after a long illness.She was married to Mr.
James W. Nunnery, Jr. with whom she had celebrated their
51st wedding anniversary on Feb. 19, 2006.
Born in Lowell, MA on Dec. 24, 1927, the daughter of
the late William F. and Mary E. (Regan) Callahan.
She was a member of the Girl Officers Regiment and a
graduate of Lowell High School with the class of 1945,
and St. John’s Nursing School in Lowell(1948), and
finished her nursing training at Simmons College in
1952. She then worked with the Lowell Visiting Nursing
Association. She then accepted a civilian position with
the US Army and was assigned to the American Hospital in
Paris, France. While in France she met her husband, Jim,
who was stationed in France with the U.S. Army, they
were married in Paris. Upon returning to Lowell, Ruth
established the Licensed Practical Nurse Program at
Lowell Trade Scholl in 1962 and was the first Director
of the Licensed Practical Nursing program at Greater
Lowell Tech, a position she held until her retirement in
1989.
Mrs. Nunnery was a life long communicant of St.
Margaret’s Church of Lowell.
She was a member of the Teachers Union, and a Simmons
College Alumni.
Besides her loving husband, Jim, she is survived by
three sons and their spouses, William J. and Anh-Van
(Ta) Nunnery, of Natick, MA, Mark E. and Veronica
Nunnery of El Paso, TX, James W. and Kimberly Nunnery,
III of Nashua, NH, two daughters and their husbands,
Marianne and Russell Roy of Londonderry, NH, Joan T. and
Darryl Myers of Middletown, RI, sisters-in-law, June
Callahan of Lowell, Estell Allen of Mobile, AL, Elosie
Hagan of Mobile, Florine Oliver of Auburn, Mississippi,
Delorise Linsley of Picaune, Mississippi, a
brother-in-law, Robert T. Nunnery of Auburn Mississippi,
sister-in-law, Bobbie Nell Martin of Brookhaven,
Mississippi,
twelve grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and close
family friends.
She was the sister of the late John Callahan of
Lowell who died in 1993.

NUNNERY, Ruth A. (Callahan) Nunnery of Lowell died March
6, 2006. Visiting hours Thurs. 5 to 8 PM and Fri. 2 to 4
and 7 to 9 PM. Funeral Sat. at 9 AM from the DOLAN
FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD, with a
funeral Mass at 10AM at St. Margaret’s Church, Lowell.
Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Lowell. Memorials may
be made in her name to the Licensed Practical Nurse
Program at Greater Lowell Vocational Technical High
