Obituary for

John R. Torla, "Jack",

of Lowell

Jack Torla, 72, of Lowell died suddenly of a heart attack on Tuesday at Saints Medical Center in Lowell, MA.

He was the husband of Charlene “Lee” (Wheeler) Torla, with whom he would have celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary this coming June.

Born and raised in N. Andover, MA on January 3, 1936, he was the son of Margaret H. (Haphey) Torla of N. Andover and the late John J. Torla.  He graduated from Johnson High School with the Class of 1953 and attended Merrimack College and Bentley College.

Jack retired from real estate appraising last December and enjoyed his free time with his wife and family.  Prior to being a real estate appraiser, he was employed by Trans World Airlines for over 25 years and brought his love of travel and aviation to his family.  In addition to working in the travel industry, he earned his private pilot’s license.  He enjoyed flying on weekends between bouts of gardening and reading up on local events and WWII history.  His greatest joys in life were travel, his wife, children and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and mother, Jack is survived by a son, John E. Torla of Lowell; daughters, Suzanne Hall and her husband, Arthur of Dracut, MA, Cindy Murphy and her husband, Walter of Pelham, NH, and Jill Torla of Lowell; a brother, Robert F. Torla and his wife, Ann Sibold of Falls Church, VA; a sister, Catherine J. Dawson of N. Andover, MA; 3 grandchildren, Jeffrey S. Hall, Brian W. Murphy and Erin K. Murphy as well as many nieces and nephews.

Jack was predeceased by his daughter Linda A. Torla of N. Andover, MA.
