Dorothy Marie (Szabo) Byers

of North Chelmsford, MA Formerly of Burlington, MA

Mrs. Dorothy Marie (Szabo) Byers of North Chelmsford, MA died Friday evening, May 9, 2008 at her home surrounded by her loving family in North Chelmsford after a courageous battle with a long illness.

She was happily married to Mr. Clyde A. Byers with whom she would have celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on November 28, 2008.

Born in Cambridge, MA on December 17, 1931, the daughter of the late Paul J. and Dorothy A. (Rogers) Szabo. She was a graduate of Belmont High School with the class of 1950.

Dorothy was employed as a Purchasing Agent with Ion Track Instruments of Burlington, MA until her retirement in 1998.

She was a giving person and donated to local charities including the Chelmsford Police and Fire Departments as well as the St. Jude Foundation.

Dorothy was an avid reader and enjoyed crafts but was most happy spending quality time with her family especially her sixteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Besides her loving husband, Clyde, she is survived by four sons, Ronald Byers of Lowell, Paul Byers of Chelmsford, David Byers of New Hampshire, Dan Byers of Bradford, MA, three daughters and their husbands, Catherine Mahoney of Bradford, MA, Dorothy and John Casey of Woburn, MA, Karen-Jean and David Welch of Ashburnham, MA, a brother and his wife, Carl and Jennifer Szabo of Hudson, MA, a sister and her husband, Ann and Denton Connors of Winter Haven, FL, sixteen cherished grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews (including Robert Allen who was like a son and his wife Linda of Westford, MA ) and family friends.

She was predeceased by her sister, Claire Quinn, Theresa Goodwin, Margaret Murphy, Rita Harmon and Paul Szabo.
