Joseph W. “Bill”
Landry, 98, of Tyngsboro died peacefully on Tuesday May 12, 2009 at his
surrounded by his family.
He was the husband of the late Hazel M. “Midge” (Cady) Landry who died
Dec. 24, 1981 and father of the late Doris Dyment Kelly who died June
14,2001.
Born in Lowell on Sept. 3, 1910, he was the son of the late Joseph and
Mary (Coggins) Landry. He had been a resident of Tyngsboro for the past
58 years. He was educated in the Tyngsboro school system.
Prior to his retirement in 1975, he had worked for over twenty years
for both the Waltham Watch Co. of Waltham and the George W. Moore
Machine Co. as Manager of the Maintenance Dept.
During his 58 years in Tyngsboro, he was active in civic affairs. At
various times he served as Chairman of the Town Beach Commission for
nine years, served on the Planning Board and managed the Tyngsboro
American Legion Club. He was a special police officer and member of the
Tyngsboro Volunteer Fire Departments for over twenty years. He also
worked in the Security Dept. of the Tyngsboro Regional Vocational
School for over twenty years until 1988.
In the 1950’s, he was the driving force in the creation of local Little
League and Babe Ruth Baseball. He founded the Interstate Little League
and Babe Ruth Baseball Organizations. The original Tyngsboro Tigers
team was formed in the 1954 Interstate Little League.
In 1981, he received a letter of appreciation and commendation from the
Town of Tyngsboro for his years of dedicated service to the town.
He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Buckley of Nashua, NH, Linda
Flynn and her husband Jack of Lowell, MA; a son William G. “Bill”
Landry and his wife Marilyn (Smith) Landry of Newton, NH; twelve
grandchildren, 17 great grand children and many great-great
grandchildren.
Funeral Notice
A private service was held for the family. There were no visiting
hours. Burial was in the Tewksbury Cemetery, Tewksbury, MA. For those
