 Walter
H. Poirier, 93, of Chelmsford, MA died Monday May 4, 2009 at the Saints
Medical Center in Lowell, MA after a long illness.
He was the former husband and best friend of Mary F (Parker) Poirier who died November 21, 2006.
Born
in Lowell on Jan. 18, 1916, he was the son of the late C. Henry and
Rose (DeForges) Poirier. Walter was raised in Billerica and graduated
from Howe High School with the Class of 1934. He attended Boston
University. He worked for John Hancock Insurance Company for over 30
years before starting his own company in 1974, the Walter H. Poirier
Real Estate and Insurance Co. He was one of the first insurance agents
to attain Certified Life Underwriter in the Merrimack Valley. He went
on to teach the course for CLU for 10 years. He continued working right
up until July of 2008 when illness curtailed his activity.
He was a communicant of St. Mary Church of Chelmsford, MA.
He
is survived by a son, Walter R. Poirier and his wife, Sheila; a
daughter, Mary K. (Kathy) Hanson; a brother Roland Poirier and his wife
Eleanor; four grandchildren, Danielle and her fiancé, David
Bonczar, Christopher Poirier, Michael Hanson, Gary Hanson and his
fiancée Danielle Mariano. He was also the grandfather of Peace Corp
Volunteer Walter J Poirier, who disappeared while serving the Peace
Corps in Bolivia, in 2001; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was the predeceased by his sister, Dolores “Toots” Cote.
FUNERAL NOTICE
POIRIER,
Walter Hector Poirier, of Chelmsford, MA May 5, 2009. There are NO
visiting hours. A funeral mass will be held Monday at 9AM at St. Mary
Church in Chelmsford, MA. Burial in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.
