Philip C. Johnson

WWII Marine Veteran Formerly of Billerica

 
Philip C. Johnson, 87, of Nashua, NH, formerly a 50-year resident of Billerica, MA died Thursday October 29, 2009 at the Fairhaven Healthcare Center in Lowell.

He was the husband of Eleanor (Twomey) Johnson with whom he celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 26th.

Born in Chelmsford, MA on March 19, 1922, he was the son of the late Claus and Emma (Pierson) Johnson. He was raised in Westford and attended the Westford School system.

He served with the U.S. Marines during WWII and received the Purple Heart at Iwo Jima.

For most of his life he worked as a Plasterer at the Bedford Veterans Administration in Bedford, MA before retiring in 1977. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing softball.

He was a communicant of St. Andrews Church in North Billerica and a member of the American Legion Post 247 in Tyngsborough.
    
Besides his wife he is survived by two sons and their wives, Carl and Wanda Johnson of Hudson, NH, Kenneth and Pamela Johnson of Tyngsborough, MA; a daughter Carol O’Neill of Westford, MA; eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Ruth Homenick of Tyngsborough.
