Obituary for

Paul John Cerqua 

of Chelmsford, MA

 
Mr. Paul John Cerqua, 69, of Chelmsford died unexpectedly Wednesday evening, September 16, 2009 at Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston, MA.
        
He was married to Mrs. Dolores M. (Vieira) Cerqua with whom he celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on June 17, 2009.    
        
Born in Boston, MA on September 27, 1939, the son of the late Felix J. and Isabel (Medeiros) Cerqua.  He was a graduate of Rindge High School with the class of 1957; he earned a Bachelors Degree from Boston State College in 1962 and a Masters Degree in 1968 from Northeastern College.

He was employed as an educator for 42 years with the Chelmsford Center School, Arlington Thompson School, Kennedy Jr. High School in Waltham, and Waltham High School.  He also was a substitute teacher in Waltham and taught speed-reading at Chart Communications Inc. until his retirement in June of 2001.  Since his retirement he has worked part time as a limo driver for Corporate Coach, and taught Driver’s Ed Classes with Nashoba Driving School both of Westford, MA.  Paul volunteered as a driver for Meals on Wheels.

He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church of Chelmsford, where he taught Religious Education classes for many years.

He was a member of the Alpine Square Dancing Club in Chelmsford, where he was a 3-time president, Waltham Teachers Association, Massachusetts Teachers Association, and the Retired State, County & Municipal Employees Association.

Besides his wife he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Paul J. Cerqua and Heidi Goddard of Chelmsford, three daughters and three sons-in-law, Karen and Greg Loycano of Chelmsford, Cheryl and Edwin Medina of North Chelmsford, Lori and Donald Martini of Bedford, MA four grandchildren, Kayla and Kyle Loycano, Devin and Brendan Gordon as well as several close family friends.

CERQUA, Paul J. Cerqua of Chelmsford died Sept. 16, 2009. Visiting hours Sun. 3 to 7 PM. Funeral Mon. at 8AM from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD, with a funeral Mass at 9AM at St. Mary’s Church in Chelmsford. Burial in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.
