James W. Lambert, 83, of Acton, formerly Chelmsford and Lexington, passed away Monday, December 17, 2018.

Born in Maryland, the son of John and Esther Lambert, Jim spent the early part of his life in the Delmarva Peninsula, before moving west to Hollywood, CA after graduating from Pennsylvania State University.  After serving in the Sixth United States Army, he presented Conquest of Space, a traveling lecture series for high school students that focused on the Space Race and the Mercury Rocket Program.

Later, Jim entered what was to be the main focus of his working life: Planned Giving in university and health care, contributing to successful campaigns at USC, MIT, Yale, Children’s Hospital, Tufts and Northeastern University.  When not working, Jim enjoyed watching ice hockey, Clint Eastwood movies WWII history, vintage motorcycles and eating pretzels.

Jim was the youngest of four sons [Dave, Bob, Rick] and married to the love of his life, Terrie, for over 50 years, who predeceased him in 2014.  Father to Gavin, father-in-law to Becky, he is survived by his grandchildren John, William, Gavin and Neve.  Jim was predeceased by his granddaughter Kate.  Jim had many warm memories of time spent at the Atlantic Seacoast with his family and traveling.  He is survived by family in the Mid-Atlantic region, his brother Rick and his family in Australia and his brother-in-law Kevin McGuire of Lexington and his companion, Sylvie Desavignes, John (Jack) McGuire and his wife, Carol McGuire of San Antonio, Texas and was uncle of Suzanne (McGuire) Wilson, John, Mark and Michael McGuire.  He is survived by many relatives throughout the United States.  Jim was appreciative of the simple beauty in everyday life and was kind, and easy going.

A special thank you to the caring staff at The Inn at Robbins Brook in Acton, who each contributed in their own way to make life better, where he spent his later years.

Private funeral services were held yesterday.  ARRANGEMENTS BY DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 978-251-4041.

We are saddened to hear of Jim’s passing. My parents recently moved to Robbins Brook, and Jim was the very first friend that they made there, sitting with them at meals, introducing them to many of the other residents, and making them feel so welcome. Even though we’ve only known Jim since October, one could tell that he was a kind and special man. Deepest condolences to the family. He will be sorely missed.

Greg and I are so sorry to hear about Uncle Jim’s passing. We both hold fond memories of him at family gatherings. He always took time to sit with us and learn about our lives. He was definitely a cool guy and into some pretty interesting things and causes. Not to mention ice hockey and motorcycles. I remember how treasured the family brother letters became for all of us as a way of sharing family news, travels and everyday life. All great examples of just how important family is and how much he appreciated it. He’ll be missed greatly and his memory will live forever in our hearts.
