James A. Wood Jr., 89, of Nashua, NH, formerly of Chelmsford, MA, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, February 21, 2018.

He was married to his devoted and loving wife Patricia, with whom he recently celebrated a forty- fifth wedding anniversary.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children; Mark and his wife, Debbie Wood of Aldie, VA; Elisabeth “Betsey” Wood of Melville, NY; Michael and his wife, Colleen Wood of Scarborough, ME; Matthew Wood of West Chester, PA; Laura Wood Costello of Hudson, NH; Dana and her husband, Dennis King of Chelmsford; Darren and his wife, Elizabeth Wood of Pelham, NH; and Deb Wood and her husband, David Konopka of Brooklyn, NY; sister-in-law, Gail Wood of Burlington, MA; fifteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Born in Somerville, MA on December 25, 1928, Jim was the son of the late James and Mary Jane Wood. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanne Bramhall Wood and his late brother, Richard “Buddy” Wood.

He graduated from Somerville High School in 1946. Shortly thereafter, he joined the U.S. Navy as a Radarman and proudly served as a plank owner on the U.S.S. Toledo (CA-133). He had great respect for his fellow servicemen.

Jim attended Northeastern University with a degree in Engineering. Prior to his retirement in 1990, he held a lauded career in the semiconductor industry holding several engineering management and consultant positions at companies such as; Arthur D. Little, Sylvania, Raytheon, Transitron, Plessey, Germanium Power, and Unitrode. As an avid sports fan he accelerated his love of golf as a single-digit-handicap member of many local Country Clubs. He played golf into his 80’s where he would occasionally shoot better than his age.

Jim lived a good life. He had a great sense of humor and was curious about many things. He was a voracious reader. He was a great story teller. He loved a good joke. He loved music. He loved singing and dancing. He was proud of his Irish heritage. He loved being surrounded by nature. He had a green thumb, and liked his steaks seared blue. But most of all he loved his family. For all that and more, his family will miss him dearly. As Jim would often say, ‘God Bless him and the horse he rode in on.’

At Jim’s request there will be no services. A private celebration of his life will be held by the family. Memorials may be made in his name to the Guardian Service Dogs www.guardianservicedogs.com, 719-465-7219 providing support for disabled veterans. ARRANGEMENTS BY DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 978-251-4041.
