Vicki Yib, of Lowell, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on September 18, 2023, surrounded by close family and friends. She fought a courageous battle against lung cancer over the last few years. Vicki’s spirit and fierce determination in the face of this terrible disease was an inspiration to all of those who knew her.

Born in Battambang, Cambodia, Vicki was the daughter of the late Yeu Yib and Khoy Chao. She moved to the United States with her family in August of 1980. Vicki graduated from Simmons College, where she earned her bachelor’s degree, and UMass Lowell, where she earned her master’s degree, both in Nursing. Vicki worked as a dedicated nurse practitioner – saving, healing, and supporting countless lives. Before falling ill, she worked at Mill City Medical Group, Lowell Community Health Center, and Lowell General Hospital. Vicki was an active and faithful member of Church of Christ of Boston, Massachusetts.

Vicki is survived by her seven siblings: Chhoy Chao (Yoeung Chao, husband) of Pelham, NH; Soung Chhann (Young Chhann, husband) Trabuco Canyon, CA; Sarah Be (Larry Be, husband) of Canyon Country, CA; June Taing (Kevin Taing, husband) of Pelham, NH; Thomas Yib (Nukita Yib, wife) of San Clemente, CA; Kayla Yib (Joe Yam, husband) of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA; and George Yib of Lowell, MA. She was the sister of the late Keang Yib and Muy Yib.

Her love and care extended to her twenty-two nieces and nephews: Thouy Chao, Khan Talley (Ken Talley, husband), Chung Be (Elizabeth Be, wife), Sann Be, Kim Chhann, Anita Lau (Hau Lau, husband), Yann Chao, Elizabeth Taing, Emily Taing, Kevin Chhann, Melissa Taing, Michael Chhann, Michelle Be Phan (Dat Phan, husband), Amanda Yib, Meghan Taing, Jessica Yib, Christopher Chao, Jennifer Be, Victoria Yib, Grace Yam, Alexa Yam, and Preston Yam.

Vicki’s warmth and kindness also touched the lives of her five wonderful great nieces and great nephews: Natalie Be, Logan Talley, Leah Be, Caleb Talley, and Jubilee Lau. Beyond her work, Vicki enjoyed hiking, painting, and spending time with friends. She also loved to travel and had a hunger to see the world. Her infectious smile and laughter brought warmth and joy to all who surrounded her. Vicki’s faith in Christianity was the guiding light of her life, and her commitment to her church community was unwavering.  Vicki Yib will be remembered not only for the battles she fought but for the love she shared, the lives she touched, and the legacy she leaves behind. Her memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to us all.

My dear Vicki, you will be greatly missed!!!

You were gentle, kind, beautiful and considerate as a friend, we were almost like sisters: We dined out, went hiking, dancing, attended music festivals, soaked up the sun and seabreeze on beaches, …I will forever cherish the memories you left behind. Although our friendship was short, you lived a beautiful life. I miss you my dear friend.?

Rest in Peace, Sheila and Walter

Dear Vicky, my love and greatly missed friend,
You had a big heart full of kindness. You often encouraged people who were expatriates and lived in the United States alone. You invited them to your family parties. You made them feel like your family was theirs too. Meanwhile, you always helped Cambodian patients who could not speak English at your workplace. Your good works remind me of 1 Corinthians 3:11-13 which talks about building on a foundation of gold, silver, stone, wood, hay, or stubble. Your works may be built on the foundation of gold in God’s sight.
    1 Corinthians 3:11-13
“11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work.”
Joyful, peace and rejoice forever with our Lord Jesus Christ. Ni Pichetshote
