Richard “Dick” “The Relic” Morse, 80, of Tyngsboro died Monday Nov. 30, 2015 at D’Youville Senior Care in Lowell, MA.
Born in Boston, MA on Dec. 10, 1934, the son of the late Edward and Ida Morse. He graduated from Boston Latin High School with the class of 1952.
He served in the US Navy from 1956 to 1958.
Dick worked as a diesel mechanic for the MBTA for many years before retiring in 1985. He also worked as an automotive appraiser for South East Appraisal Company.
Dick loved Street Rodding and was a member of several Hot Rod clubs including En Regle, Pharaohs, past president of Boston Area Roadsters, lifetime member and past state rep of the National Street Rod Association, as well as honorary member of the Canadian Street Rod Association. Assistant manager for the annual Boston World of Wheels Auto Show for nearly 30 years. Earning his 175 mph license, ‘The Relic’ also enjoyed supporting the #1034 ‘Shebad’ coupe at Land Speed Racing events and would talk cars with anyone.
He was a Royal Arch Mason and member of West Roxbury-Dorchester Lodge A.F.& A.M.
Dick is survived by two sons and a daughter in-law, Richard “Rick” and Laura Morse of Norfolk, VA and Gregory “Greg” Morse of Hanover, MA; three grandchildren, James and Van Morse of Biloxi, MS and Ashley Morse of Foxboro, MA; and his long-time companion, Judith Biggs of Tyngsboro, MA.
Visiting hours Dec. 5th Sat. morning 9:00 to 11:00 AM with a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM in the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD, MA. For those that wish, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society. Hot rods welcome.

The relic was there before the beginning. First met at NEHRC meetings in the quanset hut in Rowley under the direction of Moe Ward. A genuine article. Always fun and full of old stories. He was napping too much lately. But he won’t be missed. He’ll always be around, even after the end! God Bless.

I am sad to hear about Dick’s passing. He was a great supporter of the Ty-Rods’ Old Timers’ Reunion where we talked every year for the last approximately 35 years. He was also very helpful with my multiple vehicle visits to the World of Wheels in Boston where he was in charge of all the vehicles. And there were the conversations at Bonneville as he loved helping, driving and representing “Shebad.” There was nothing Dick would not do to support anyone in the hot rod world. He was known by many, many hotroders and his presence at many events will be missed. RIP, Dick. Mac Reid

Dick was one of those FUN guys that everyone liked to be around. He always was one of the bright lights when he came on one of the many trips to Canada.
When my daughter was here the other day she recalled that as a younger girl she was told to ride with Dick when we were going to dinner. She said that Dick seemed a little bit scary and when then she got in the Vicky and the sign on the dash said ” GET IN , SIT DOWN , SHUT UP AND HOLD ON !!!!!!! ” . We had a great laugh over that memory.
Even though we lived 10 hours apart , I will always remember Dick as a great friend.

Our deepest sympathy to Judy, Rick, Greg and families. Remembering our traveling to rod runs with Relic 3rd in line. So many fun times, so many laughs. I remember one time in Canada he wanted to cook us breakfast on the hibachi and my sons wanted pancakes. He managed to make pancakes on the Hibachi. Always did a pork roast at the Canats. Just a couple of memories. We will miss you but he will always be in my thoughts and heart. RIP DickI. and that is another story!!!!!

I meet Dick some years back in the 80’s while Street Rodding with my Yankee Hot Rod friends. I remember playing my Banjo at a few of the Nats & Dick being there giving me a hard time being a Rebel ! He was a Cool Guy & I have always thought so much of him ! Sending our sincerest sympathy to Judy and the family…Dick was a true streetrodder and friend to many…he will be missed.

Our hearts and prayers are with the Morse family during this most difficult time. Meeting Dick through the National Street Rod Association, it didn’t take long to realize if someone was an east coast rodder, they knew Dick Morse. Those memories will last forever.

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Dick. We have lost one of the true originals. He always had words of encouragement. I will miss seeing him walk through the doors at the Nostalgia Fest this year.

When I broke into the group, my instructions were: follow the Relic, pay my hotel bill, and go to sleep. At the Canats they questioned me all weekend. The roast pork lunches were something that I think of any time I have pork. I was happy to be 4th in line, we had a lot of fun and I will miss him. God bless, Gene ‘Cool 48’ RI

Dick Morse, you sounded a bit frail last time we talked, but you didn’t let on. Typical…but anyway…met Dick and Biggsy in ’94 in Strong at Sam’s…Arduns, hot rods and rock-n-roll spoken…rod runs in Cumberland, Maine and Hebron, and then came The Maine Barons and the Sam Sampson Coupe (1034), Maxton, N.C.,Bonneville,inUtah, and Loring, doing the land speed racing, getting his 175 license at 75 years old, and grinnin’ like a dog eatin bees….and the stories of old…his picture in Bernie Schuman’s Cool Cars and Square Roll Bars, and in the 2004 B’ville centerfold in Peter Vincent’s book after the passing of Sam , not to mention being one of the original “7” at the first Sam’ s Run in East Poland…the stuff of memories….he was always entertaining in one form or another (LOL), always a “Baron”, ton of fun, good to talk with long distance or short, and a friend to us all…My heartfelt condolences to you all, and Judy too…Dave Rowell, Downeast Streetrods, Maine Barons Racing
