Agnes P. (Proyous) Yankopoulos, 81, of Chelmsford died Monday, December 4, 2017 in Westford, MA.
She was married to Menelaos Yankopoulos with whom she celebrated 58 years of marriage and enjoyed 21 years of retirement together.
Born in Fall River, MA, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Frances (Verros) Proyous. She graduated from B.M.C. Durfee High School in Fall River and earned a BS in Education from Bridgewater State University.
Agnes began her teaching career in Wallingford, CT. Upon moving to Chelmsford, she continued her career with the Chelmsford Public School District until she retired in 1996. She taught at the North School and the Harrington School.
She was a member of Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church of Lowell where she was very active in the Ladies Philoptochos Society and had been a member of the choir.
Agnes’s greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed her extensive travels, reading and cooking. She was a proud, longtime resident of Chelmsford.
Along with her husband, she is survived by her son, Peter and his wife, Tami Yankopoulos of Hopkinton, NH; daughter, Katrina and her husband, James McCann of Groton, MA; brother-in-law, Gus Milionis of Wilmington, DE; grandchildren, Dean McCann, Athena Fay McCann and Alexander Yankopoulos; two nieces and a nephew, cousins, and friends that treated her as family.
She was the sister of the late Thalia Milionis, and the sister in law of the late Father Steven Yankopoulos and the late Presvytera Ann Yankopoulos.
Visitation Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. with a Funeral Service at 11:00 at the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 25 Fr. John Sarantos Way, Lowell. Burial in the Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford. Memorials may be made in her name to the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox, 25 Father John Sarantos Way, Lowell, MA 01854.
