Alfred G. Marcotte died peacefully at his home in Bridgewater, New Jersey on Sunday, April 16, 2023.
He was 96.

Born in Westford, Al was the son of the late Alfred and Mary Marcotte. He was raised in North Chelmsford, graduated from Chelmsford High School and received a B.S in Electrical Engineering from Tufts University. Al started his career at MIT Lincoln Labs, moved to LFE Corporation in Waltham and then ended his career at Mitre Corporation in Bedford, retiring in 1993. While working at LFE Corporation, Al received an M.S. in Electrical Engineering and an M.S. in Engineering Management from Northeastern University and continued his association with the university as an evening instructor in the College of Professional Studies. In retirement, Al continued as a private consultant.

Al proudly served with the U.S. Navy during World War II as an Aviation Electronic Technician. He played baseball for Tufts University and was a semipro pitcher for the Varney AA of North Chelmsford. He was an avid tennis player throughout his life and enjoyed playing cribbage with friends and family. During the last 10 years of his life, he developed a love of all types of puzzles, including Sudoku, crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles.

He leaves behind his cherished wife of 71 years, Doris Marcotte, and his three children, Nancy McQuade (Kevin), Deborah Marcotte (Randall Haist), and Thomas Marcotte (Catherine).  He was a loving Pepe to his ten grandchildren, Timothy McQuade, Daniel McQuade (Amanda), Caitlin McQuade, Patrick McQuade, Kelsey Haist, Taylor Haist, Thomas Marcotte, Peter Marcotte, Andrew Marcotte, Leigh Marcotte, and four great-grandchildren, Isla, Stella, Conor and Lacey McQuade.

He is also survived by his brothers, Joseph Marcotte (Carole) and Raymond Marcotte (Jan), and his sisters, Anna Plein and Estelle Moore. He was predeceased by his sister, Valerie Marcotte.

His wit and kindness will be forever missed.

Visiting hours will be from 4 to 7 pm on Sunday, April 23 at the Dolan Funeral Home, 106 Middlesex Street, Chelmsford, MA. A funeral mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church in Chelmsford, MA on April 24 at 9:00 am. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Chelmsford, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital.

    To Mrs. Marcotte and your extended family: Very sorry to hear about your beloved husband’s passing. The both of you were always very kind to my mother and that still is greatly appreciated. In reading his obituary, what amazes me was the fidelity of your long and cherished marriage. Please accept my sincere condolences, with the hope that the grief you are now experiencing will eventually be replaced with beautiful and lasting memories.

    To Doris and Al’s siblings, I am so sorry to hear of Al’s passing. I grew up two houses down from the Marcotte family, and always love seeing all the teenagers there. Thank you for your beautiful memories and example of belief in family and marriage.
