I wanted to express my heartfelt condolences regarding your Mother. Right now there really is no detour around grief, no shortcut through mourning. However 2 Corinthians 4:7 says that God can give us, “… power beyond what is normal”, to go from one day to the next. This does not mean that we no longer cry or that we forget, but it means we recover. We recover because of our hope. Jesus Christ talked about our hope in John 5:28, “… all those in the memorial tomb will hear his voice and come out “. Jesus was referring to the resurrection, this is our amazing hope! At John 11:11-14 Jesus likened death to sleep where one will awaken from it in the same manner as did Lazarus (account is in John 11). He promises a time very soon where no family will ever have to mourn the death of a loved ever again, Revelation 21:4. The Bible likens our hope to an anchor. Just like an anchor stabilizes a ship, our hope stabilizes us, keeps us from drowning in overwhelming sadness. 2 Corinthians 1:3 describes our Creator as, “… the God of all comfort “. Some of the ways God comforts us is by moving people who care about us to give us words of encouragement that we need to hear as well as by the promises he has made and will definitely keep so we can regain our joy. May the God of comfort be your comfort now during this time of sorrow.
