Beverly (Hopkins) Carkin Given, 75, of Tyngsboro died surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Lowell General Hospital.
She was married to the late Howard F. Given Sr., who died on January 5, 2010.
Born in Lowell, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Annie (McLoon) Hopkins. She graduated from Lowell High School with the class of 1959.
Beverly’s passion was helping people. She worked in a variety of medical roles. She retired from Mass Eye Associates of Chelmsford. Beverly had previously worked at St. John’s Hospital as an operating room coordinator and at the Detox Unit at Lowell General Hospital.
She worshipped at the Evangelical Congregational Church of Dunstable.
In addition to loving and caring for her own large family, many children in the neighborhood and town also benefitted from her generous spirit. “Bebbie” was a care-taker.
Beverly was a member of the planning committee for the Tyngsborough Public Library and new Town Hall and a member of the Friends of the Library. Most recently she was collaborating with the Dunstable Rural Trust to restore the McLoon Farm. Reading, knitting and learning were life-long passions.
She is survived by her Daughters, Julie L. Carkin, MD and her partner, Lisa A. Jackson, MD of Seattle, WA and Kelly Given of Claremont, NH; Sons, Howard F. Given II and his fiancée, Dot A. Burr of Nashua, NH and Christopher J. and his wife, Ryse D. Given of San Diego, CA and many loving grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late David Hopkins of Allentown, NH.
Instead of visiting hours, there will be a Memorial Service Mon. at 11A.M. at the Evangelical Congregational Church, 518 Main Street, Dunstable, MA with a lunch reception immediately afterward in the Church fellowship hall. Private Burial at a later time in the Memorial Cemetery, Tyngsboro, MA. Remembrances may be made in her name to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
