Charles Robert “Bob” Moore, 80, a resident of Burlington, formerly of Chelmsford, MA, passed away in the early hours of July 8, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Bob was born in the Sunflower state, Kansas City, Kansas, the son of the late Albert and Anne (Graham) Moore. He graduated in 1955 and proudly served with the U.S. Marines. He happily became a life-long Jayhawk when he enrolled at the University of Kansas and graduated in 1962 with a BA in Math. This began a lifetime of work in the field of computers when he worked for several companies, introducing how computers could enhance their work product and he retired from Digital Equipment Corp in 1993. Upon his retirement he became a founding member of the Digital Retirees Association and helped it evolve into the current DECconnection organization.
He was the loving husband of Doris (DeGraves) Moore and was predeceased by his first wife Barbara Jeanne (Chaplin) Moore.
Bob hitchhiked home from California to Kansas to marry Barbara on February 14, 1957, a date that would hold a place in his heart long after Barb’s death in 1987, as he celebrated Valentine’s Day each year by hosting a luncheon for the “Very Special Ladies” of his church.
Bob found a second chance at love in 2003 when he married his square dance partner, Doris. Doris went on to become the truest blessing to Bob and his children giving strong support to his now adult children as well as Bob himself as he struggled with health issues towards the end of his life.
Unwavering FAITH guided him through joys and sorrows. He was a member of the Central Congregational Church in Chelmsford, UCC, and served on the Diaconate, Christian Education, Stewardship, Trustees, Finance, and many other committees. He was also active in the United Church of Christ serving on several committees and as delegate to local and national meetings.
FAMILY and FRIENDS flourished in his caring and consistent attention. Bob enjoyed keeping in touch with many generations of family; eagerly attending family reunions in the Midwest, supporting many of his grandchildren’s activities, and being proud of everyone’s endeavors. He was always willing to sit down to do a puzzle or play a game – especially War with his grandchildren and Canasta with his children. Bob nurtured relationships both near and far and travelled to see family and friends throughout the country especially after his retirement. Visiting the Southwest, Midwest, Northwest, Alaska and the Canadian Rockies, he always found someone to drop in on.
Bob’s infectious smile was a sure sign that Bob loved having FUN. Whether it was working on projects cooked up with his kids for scouts and school, his volunteer work, or square dancing with the Alpine Squares and Yankee Twirlers, he made it his mission to use his sense of humor in every situation and to make even the most tedious tasks fun. Bob will be remembered for his smile, his devotion to God, his love of family, his connections with friends and the kind way he treated all those who came into his life.
Besides his wife he is survived by his son Robert Moore of Lowell; daughters, Pam and her husband, Jim Paul of Amherst, NH, Patricia “Patti” and her husband, Barry Gross of Wakefield, RI, Paula and her husband, George Abouzeid of Norton, MA; sister, Peggy Sandford, of Findlay, OH; grandchildren, Samuel, Benjamin, and Michael Gross, Jared Paul, Kylie, Katrina and Edward Abouzeid; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Visiting hours Friday on August 11, from 3 to 7 P.M. at the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 106 MIDDLESEX ST, CHELMSFORD. Memorial Service to be held on Saturday, August 12, 11:00 am at CENTRAL CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH in CHELMSFORD, 1 Worthen Street, Chelmsford, MA.
