Constance “Connie” N. (Grindall) Smith, 80, of Chelmsford, MA died on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Lowell General Hospital, Lowell, MA.
She was married to Paul D. Smith with whom she celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on April 23, 2017.
Born in Waterville, ME, she was the daughter of the late Everard and Marjorie Grindall. She graduated from Winslow High School in Winslow, ME with the class of 1955.
Connie worked at the Federal Trust Company in Waterville, ME and also as a medical transcriber for several physicians in Texas, Virginia, Maine and Maryland.
She was a member of the Congregational Church in Waterville, ME.
Connie was the founder of Stitch and Bitch of Petersburg, WVA. She enjoyed knitting, crafts and being with all of her friends and family.
She was a strong and courageous woman who was able to overcome polio and breast cancer.
Besides her husband she is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Smith and her spouse, Mary Showalter and family of Shenandoah, VA; son, Scott Smith of Boston, MA; grandson, Brendan Curran of Los Angeles, CA; brother, Harry and his wife, Karen Grindall of Boothbay, ME; sisters, Gail Morseburg of ME and Martha Grindall Audet of Winslow, ME; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Paul Grindall, Faith Davis and Jean Davis, who preceded her in death four hours before Connie.
A “Celebration of Life” Ceremony will be held Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 11A.M. at the Congregational Church, 7 Eustis Parkway, Waterville, ME. Memorials may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452. ARRANGEMENTS BY DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX STREET CHELMSFORD, MA 978-251-4041.

My deepest sympathies go out to you and your family for your great loss of Connie. You may feel that the pain of losing a loved one is so deep that it will never go away, especially when our time with them always seems to be cut short of our hearts desire. One thing that has helped comfort me is Jehovah God’s personal interest mentioned at Psalm 147:3, it says “He heals the brokenhearted, He binds up their wounds.” May Jehovah’s personal care for you and desire to mend your broken heart bring you solace and warmly embrace you in this time of deep sorrow! Paul, Cynthia, and Scott – my heart goes out to you. You and Connie were very good to me back when. I know you are going to miss Connie. Mre of her (and you) wouldn’t have hurt me a bit! My last memory of Connie was her letting me drive her Mustang – she was going somewhere in Ft. Smith, don’t recall where. But I remember she was very funny that day and that is how I will picture her always. Love to you all.
