Daniel P Regan, 89, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away in Tucson, Arizona after a brief period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of Barbara A (Brosnan) Regan, with whom he celebrated 46 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2005.

Dan was born in Lowell, Massachusetts on May 2, 1934, the son of the late Daniel and Helen (Manning) Regan. He grew up in the Acre, was a graduate of Keith Academy and then Northeastern University.

Following his discharge from the US Army in 1959, he worked for B&M Railroad in freight transportation.  He then transitioned to working in wholesale sugar sales, initially at Revere Sugar and then Domino Sugar, until his retirement in 2004. Throughout his career, his business included relationships with well-known companies such as HP Hood, Yum Yum Shops, Hendrie’s Ice Cream, Ben & Jerry’s, Nestlé, and Nabisco.

As a devout Catholic, Dan was a longtime communicant of St. John the Evangelist Parish, and an avid supporter of organizations helping people in need.  He enjoyed spending considerable time with his grandchildren and friends, as well as staying connected with family in Ireland.

Surviving him are his sons Daniel Regan, Jr, of Lowell; James Regan and his wife Amy, of Cape Neddick, ME; and a daughter Maria and her husband Norman Robillard, of Tucson, AZ; four grandchildren: Stephanie Regan, Brian Regan and his wife Katie, and Genevieve and Regan Robillard; a sister Eleanor Ryan, and sister-in-law Teresa Brosnan; also many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he is pre-deceased by a sister-in-law, Genevieve Brosnan, brothers-in-law, James Brosnan and James Ryan, and nephew, Robert Ryan.

Dan was a beautiful example of being God’s eyes, ears, hands and heart here on earth in the way he treated his family, friends, neighbors and strangers. HIs faith was steadfast and he stood on his foundation. I pray for peace and comfort for the entire Regan and Robillard families as you all celebrate Dan;s life. So sorry to hear of Dan’s passing we had a lot in common. One of my brothers was buried from this same funeral home.
Dan and I both graduated from Keith Academy and Northeastern Univ. He was a first class Irishman. We both worked at Domino Sugar together. I remember him as a big Chelmsford High School football fan.

Dan was a business associate and then quickly became a great friend of many years. We always would get together as often as possible and then when he went to Arizona, we continued by telephone. Dan was the epitome of a Christian life caring about all his family and friends. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Our sympathies to his family who he loved so much.
