Dorothy B. (Berrigan) Banfield, 81, of Dunstable, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, March 30, 2017 at her home.
She was married to the late Donald Banfield, who predeceased her on January 31, 2014.
Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Joesph and Rita (Dobbins) Berrigan and the sister of the late Leo Berrigan of Gloucester, MA. She graduated from Gloucester High School with the class of 1953.
Dorothy worked for Bird’s Eye Frozen Foods of Gloucester, MA, and later for Marshall’s and Macy’s Department Stores in Nashua, NH.
She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church.
Known as “Dot” to her family and friends, she loved flowers and was an avid gardener. She enjoyed watching Law & Order, crossword puzzles, going to restaurants, shopping, reading and spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed trips to Rockport and her outings with the girls. She also enjoyed special occasions at the Andover Country Club and having cookouts by her pool.
She leaves behind her two best pals, her grandpuppies Mazey and Maya who were with her every day.
She is survived by her son, Michael Banfield and his girlfriend, Carol Tully of Dunstable, MA, her daughter, Linda and her husband, Michael Ranhoff of Canton, ME. She is also survived by Judy Daigle who was like a daughter to her, her friend Doug Lefevbre, and the entire Daigle, Heyman and Edwards families all of whom were dear friends that were a big part of her life.
At her request there are no visiting hours. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral mass at St. John the Evangelist Church, 115 Middlesex Street, North Chelmsford, MA on Saturday April 8th at 11AM. A private burial will be held at a later date in the Central Cemetery, Dunstable. Memorials may be made in her name to the Lowell Humane Society 951 Broadway St. Lowell, MA 01852. My mother and I are so sorry to hear the news of Dot’s passing. My mother Mildred Aubrey and her late husband William Aubrey were lifelong friends of Dot and “Bender” (as my Dad used to call Donald for years) We used to visit them when they lived in an apartment on Mt Pleasant Ave and later at the house your Dad built on Mt Pleasant Ave in Gloucester Ma. They were close for many years but then later when your parents moved to Dunstable, and my parents got older driving there to visit wasn’t always something my parents could do. After my Dad passed I drove my mother to see Dot and your Dad a few times, and enjoyed seeing her garden, and spending time with them. Then after that it was a few phone calls. Your Mom was such a kind caring person, and your Dad one of my Dad’s best friends. Both of them are truly missed, please accept our condolences.
