Dorothy E. (LeClair) Mackey of Murrells Inlet, SC formerly of N. Chelmsford, MA and Kenneth City, FL beloved wife of the late Peter Mackey died on Wed. June 20, 2018.

Born in N. Chelmsford, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Lena (Nardin) (Lowell) LeClair. She graduated from Chelmsford High School in 1937 and attended Lowell Commercial College and U Mass Lowell.

Mrs. Mackey retired in 1981 from Cabot Corporation where she had been employed for 20 years, had worked in a law firm the previous ten years, and was employed at the Navy Dept. in Washington, D.C. and the Boston Army Base before and during WWII.

She was a lifelong communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in N. Chelmsford and a member of St. Jude Cathedral in St. Petersburg, FL.

She was a member of Nabnasset Lake Country Club for forty years, a member of the League of Catholic Women, the Chelmsford Art Society, the Chelmsford Friends of the Library, Inc., and the Greater Lowell Family YMCA, a volunteer for 11 years at the Chelmsford Senior Center, a lifetime member of the Chelmsford High School Alumni Association, and the Class Agent for the Class of 1937; also, a former member of the Catholic Daughters of America, the National Secretaries Association, past officer of the North School PTA, a volunteer at the Veterans Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL, a volunteer for the Red Cross, and a Chelmsford Girl Scout Leader.

She is survived by her son, Robert P. Mackey, and his wife, Barbara of Murrells Inlet, SC,  She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Peter A. Mackey of Wakefield, RI, Scott R. Mackey of Clovis, NM, Rebecca M. Morgan of Manchester, NH, Christopher Worthley of Takoma Park MD and Jennifer Chapman of Portland ME, Angela Conrad of Bangor, ME, and Benjamin Conrad of  Silverspring, MD, 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, many nieces, nephews, and close family friends.

She was predeceased by her daughter , the late Lynn (Mackey)(Conrad)Applegate of Bangor, ME, her siblings, the late Charles Lowell, a veteran of the Lowell Fire Dept, the late Mildred (LeClair) (Mochrie)Harmon, her late brothers, Raymond LeClair, and his wife, Alice (Collinge), George LeClair and his wife, Eleanor (Mochrie).  All of whom were originally from Chelmsford.

Visiting hours, Sunday, August 12th from 2 to 4 PM. Her Funeral will be  Mon. at 8am from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD, with a funeral mass at 9am in St. John the Evangelist Church in N. Chelmsford. Burial in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.     Please accept my condolences. I remember working with her during my involvement with the Chelmsford High School Alumni Association magazine. She was always so pleasant and kind! Her philanthropic work did so much good, and was truly an example to many.
