5803 DeckertE. Babette “Betty” (Schmid) Deckert, 80, of N. Chelmsford, MA died Tuesday morning, May 31, 2016 at Willow Manor in Lowell.

She was married to Fred W. Deckert with whom she celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary on January 2.

Born in Kitzingen, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Georg and Anna Schmid. Betty moved to the US in 1954. Betty was a loving mother, wife and homemaker with special talent for interior design. She was a certified seamstress, having completed her apprenticeship in Germany. She attended St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. PA, studied finance/banking, and progressed at Fidelity Bank from teller to Branch Manager, then became an international loan specialist.

Betty was a member of the Bavarian Club of Philadelphia. She enjoyed her family, skiing and classical music.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Jeffrey and his wife, Laura Woelbl of Rockledge, PA; a daughter, Linda Woelbl of Lansdale, PA; two step daughters, Heidi and her husband, Jeffrey Eshelman of Schwenksville, PA and Joanna Deckert of Salmon, ID; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.

She was the sister of the late Gertrud Penney of Southington, CT, who died in 1996.

The family wishes to thank the Willow Manor staff, nurses and health aides for their three-year comprehensive care of Betty; also thanks for the extra palliative care provided by the Life Choice/Compassus Hospice team since August,  2015 for the care of Betty for the past three years.

There are no visiting hours. Funeral Monday at 12 noon from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD, with a funeral Mass at 1:00 PM at St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial in Valley Forge Gardens Cemetery, PA.

    Hi, Fred.
    So sorry for your loss. At least Betty is at peace. You be blessed, I’m sure for all the care and support you have given to Betty. I’m hoping you will feel better as each day passes and the Lord will give you peace and happiness eventually.
    Will look forward to seeing you when you come down to Phila.
