Edward L. Morris Jr., Esq., 70, of Lowell, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015.
He was born in Lowell on October 10, 1944, to his beloved parents Edward and Marie (Reardon) Morris, who later gained the affectionate appellations of “Papa” and “Mame.” He is survived by his brother, David, of Lowell.
Ed was a well-educated man. He graduated from Keith Academy in 1962 and from St. Anselm College in 1966. While teaching at Lowell High School (1966- 1975), he attended night classes at Assumption College, graduating with a Masters degree in English in 1972. His next challenge was law school, which he attended at night while teaching at the Greater Lowell Vocational School. He graduated from Suffolk Law School in 1976. He then embarked on nearly four decades of service at the bar, working first as an attorney for the Lowell and Dracut public schools, and eventually in the City Law Department of Lowell and for various other local municipal entities. He also maintained a private practice for many years, serving his clients morning, noon and night.
Ed first encountered the polestar of his universe as a fifteen-year old schoolboy. What started when Joanne (Mulligan) invited him to the Mistletoe Hop one evening in 1959, blossomed into a love for the ages – with over fifty years of lively banter, belly laughter and, above all, an abiding affection for each other. They were married in 1967. The progeny of this lifelong partnership are Jonalyn Morris Busam (Vincent), of Hermosa Beach, California, Bethany Morris (Kevin Costello), of Medford, and Eddie Morris of Lowell. The animating joy of Ed’s life was his five grandchildren: Devin and Grant Busam; and Eamon, Quinn and Adeline Costello. His spirit and his laugh live on in them.
Ed’s wit, his generosity and his love for others enriched the lives of all those who knew him; his gifts to us will always remain.
Visiting hours Wed. 3 to 6 P.M. immediately followed by a celebration of his life at 6:00 PM at the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME ,106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD, MA. How sorry I was to hear that Eddie had passed away. We grew up together on West Ninth Street in Lowell. We had been in touch in recent years as Eddie handled the Estate of our Dad.
Ed passed away much too young. My condolences to all of you, as I know this is a difficult time. Please know that prayers and thoughts are being sent to all of you.
