Ernest “Ernie” Bernard Jr., 71, of Hampton, NH formerly of Chelmsford, died Sunday, December 16, 2018 at Suncoast Hospice Facility, Largo, FL.
He was married to Janet Bernard with whom he celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on October 24th.
Born in Medford on December 28, 1946, he was the son of the late Ernest Bernard and the late Thelma Bernard who died on the same day as Ernie, December 16th. He was a graduate of Tewksbury High School with the class of 1965. Ernie attended Lowell Tech.
He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.
He retired from Verizon in 2003, after 36 years with the telephone company.
He was a communicant of St. Mary Church in Chelmsford.
Ernie was an avid New England Sports fan. He wintered in Largo, FL.
He was a member of the Tewksbury Elks, and the American Legion Post of Tewksbury.
He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and traveling. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, LeeAnn and her husband, Matthew Doyon of Newport, NH, and Erin and her husband James Johnson of Chelmsford, MA; a sister, Ann and her husband, John “Jack” Doyle of Littleton, MA; two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Owen Johnson.
He was the brother of the late Barbara Kilkelly.
Visiting hours Thurs. 3 to 7 P.M. Funeral Fri. at 8AM from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD, with a funeral Mass at 9AM at St. John the Evangelist Church in N. Chelmsford.
