Gary Raymond St. Martin, 72, of Westford, MA died peacefully after a courageous battle with gastric cancer surrounded by his loving family on October 29th, 2017. Gary leaves his loving, devoted wife and best friend of 51 years, Cheryl (Strayton) St. Martin.

Gary was the loving father of Aimee Murray and her husband Keith of Chelmsford, Erica Connell and her husband David of Tyngsboro and Raymond St. Martin and his wife Kate of Bolton.

He was a very proud and loving Papa to his grandchildren; Elena and Griffin Murray, Kevin, Kristin and Kyle Connell and Lily and Lauren St. Martin.

Gary is survived by his sisters; Michelle Starr and her husband David of Tyngsboro, Karen Butler and her husband David of Northbridge, and Betsy Parke and her husband Bob of Westford, his sister-in-law Candice (Reidy) St. Martin of Falmouth, his sister-in-law Diane (Stuart) Blake and her husband Charles of Falmouth, and was a proud uncle to many nieces and nephews and their families.

Gary was born in Cambridge on December 29th, 1944 and was predeceased by his parents Raymond and Jeanne St. Martin, his brothers Mark and Scott St. Martin and his brother-in-law Harry Gould.

Gary’s family moved to Bedford and then to Acton where he graduated from Acton Boxborough Regional HS, before earning his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

After graduation, Gary joined the corporate world (A.B. Dick Co, Standard Duplicating Machines Corp.) where he advanced to senior management positions before relocating to PA, CT, ME and IL before returning to MA and settling in Westford in March of 1981.

For the last 30 years Gary had a successful real estate practice in Westford, a business he loved along with wonderful colleagues, customers, clients and competitors he met along the way. Gary always said “The man who loves his job never goes to work”.

He loved spending time with his family, traveling, reading, and was an avid Boston sports fan. He had the honor of witnessing the Red Sox beat the Yankees at Yankee Stadium in game 7 of the 2004 ALCS with his son. Gary was proud to see the Sox go on to win their first World Series in 86 years.

In August of 2016 Gary & Cheryl took their entire family on a memorable cruise to Bermuda to honor their 50th wedding anniversary. Although Gary was a natural leader in all of his professional pursuits he always found time to put his family first.  He leaves a legacy of laughter, love, and character to all those that knew him.

Gary was an active member of the Rotary Club of Westford and for over 27 years, his club was involved in raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for local charities and scholarships.

In lieu of flowers, friends who wish, may make a donation in Gary’s memory to the Rotary Club of Westford Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 231, Westford, MA 01886.

Family and friends will gather, celebrating Gary’s life at Dolan Funeral Home at 106 Middlesex Street, North Chelmsford, MA on Friday, November 3, 2017 from 12 Noon to 4PM. ARRANGEMENTS BY DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 978-251-4041.

Such sad news. The world is a less bright place without Gary. It’s been many years since we were in Westford, but we always remember Gary and his wonderful family as a bright light of the time we lived in Westford. We express our sincere condolences to Gary’s family.

A life well lived for a man who will be sorely missed by many. Gary made high school reunions unexpectedly fun to attend. His family is his wonderful legacy and we share you great loss, Cheryl. Gary fought a good fight and has earned his rest. His courage and strong spirit will keep us smiling the rest of our journey. On behalf of the Acton Boxboro Regional High School Class of 1962, and as secretary, we send our heartfelt sympathy to everyone how loved and admired this good man.

Gary thanks for being you. We may have dueled at times in Realty, where you usually won, yet I always learned. We developed a lasting friendship through the Westford Rotary Club which we joined in the same year. You lead by doing and therefore set a good example for others to follow. You will be missed by many, yet your memory lives on, in the lives that you touched. I’m certain this is many and that is a very nice legacy to leave behind.
