Gerard Joseph (Jerry) Chenell, Jr., 75, of Tyngsboro, MA died Monday, November 20, 2017 at Lowell General Hospital.

He was married to Susan (Ready) Chenell with whom he celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary on March 19th.

Born in Lowell on April 19, 1942 the son of the late Gerard J. and Claire (Boucher) Chenell, he was known to all as “Sonny”. Sonny graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1960, and from Saunders Electronics Institute of Boston in 1962. His early career in electronics was in Lowell at Merrimack Magnetics Corporation and later at RdF Corporation in Hudson, NH as a Quality Assurance Manager. Later in life he was Head of Security at St. Joseph Hospital in Lowell. The job he loved most was serving for decades as a volunteer firefighter for the Tyngsboro Fire Department, starting at age 16.

He loved living on Lake Mascuppic. As a younger man he was an avid boater and water skier. In retirement he enjoyed cookouts by the water, sunsets from his rocker, and spending time with his family.

Besides his wife, he is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, Elizabeth C. Chenell of Tyngsboro, Suzanne & Michael L’Hussier of Chelmsford, Nicole & Peter Canniff of Tyngsboro and Melissa & David Kelley of Dracut; a son and daughter-in-law, Garrett & Tara Ford of Windermere, FL; and seven grandchildren, Courtney and Amanda L’Hussier, Hope Canniff, Aubrey and Addilyn Kelley, and Hayden and Jackson Ford.

Funeral Services are Private. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford. Memorials may be made in his name to the Lowell Humane Society 951 Broadway St. Lowell, MA 01854. ARRANGEMENTS BY DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 978-251-4041.

    To the Entire Chenell Family,

    So sorry to hear about Sonny’s passing. I knew him as Nocole and Suzanne’s father and as a young man. He was tall with dark hair and a happy smile. He will be mixed by family and friends.
