Gladys Chaput was born on January 26, 1939, to Llewellyn and Dorothy (Dunham)Winslow in Peabody, MA. Gladys graduated from Saugus High School in 1956. She worked for many years at MIT Lincoln Laboratories before retiring and enjoying her golden years traveling, volunteering, and doing the things she loved to do. As the Matriarch of her family, she was the center of every birthday, holiday, and family gathering. She explored the world and visited many places, both old and new to her. She traveled across the pond to England, made a cross-country trip after graduating high school, made countless visits to Phoenix, drove up and down the West Coast, and experienced the beautiful Hudson Valley of New York. She loved delivering Meals on Wheels, attending bible study, and being an active member of any community she was in.

The value of a life isn’t measured by the zeros in their bank account, or their social media friend count. It’s measured by their impact on the ones who love them most and their noticeable absence. For the family of Gladys, this will be felt on Football Sunday, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and at every major milestone of her many children, grandchildren, and extended family. It will be felt among her church congregation. It will be felt among the friends and staff she made at the Wingate Residences. Her loss will be noticeable, but those who knew her will be comforted by memories of the time, warmth, and genuine love she gave to them.

Gladys was preceded in death by her daughter, Lorraine Garthe, her parents and her two brothers, Doug, and Stan Winslow. She is survived by her husband of over thirty years, Maurice Chaput, and her sister, Sylvia Winslow. She is also survived by children: Debbie Kodesh and her husband Bob of Derry NH, her son Dan Carney and his wife Brenda of Concord NH, James Carney and his wife Briae of Nashua NH and Scott Carney of Scottsdale AZ. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

I remember Gladys dearly during her employment at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. I worked in Human Resources and she worked in the Aerospace Division. She was a wonderful woman, who was always professional, helpful, caring, pleasant, and kind. Her bright, genuine smile was contagious. Undoubtedly, she will be missed by many. My condolences go out to her family and friends. Rest in Peace, Glady.
