Hazel R. Thompson, 86, of Westford, MA passed away suddenly Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Lowell General Hospital.  She was born in Lowell, on May 17, 1937 the eldest daughter of the late Samuel and Doris Parks.  Hazel was the sister of the late Samuel Ira Parks and Grace Latour.

She graduated from Chelmsford High School as a proud member of the Honor Society.

Hazel met and married James Thompson relocating to Forge Village, Westford, MA. During her time in Westford, she continued to work for Fred C Church Insurance Company. She was an active parishioner of St. Catherine’s of Alexandria. Whether assisting with nuptial preparation, raising three sons as altar boys, participating in the Christmas Bazars, or attending the weekly rosary group, Hazel was well known to the church.

Transitioning from working to retirement you would often hear her speak about going dancing. She enjoyed ballroom as well as line dancing “with the girls”.

Her love of family always came first. Many joyous holidays were spent with her brother and sister and their families. Yankee swap was a highlight as well as a sport. She loved spending time with her nieces and was ready for any and all outings. Fun, laughter and mischief was the hallmark of each of those trips.

She is survived by her sons, Garrett Thompson and his wife Maryann of Groton, Steven Thompson and his wife Christina of North Carolina, Bruce Thompson of Cape Coral, FL, and Karen Thompson of Maine wife of predeceased son Kevin Thompson. Nieces, Suzanne and Kenneth Carter of Tyngsboro, MA, Jacqueline Baker and Michael Biederman of Tyngsboro, MA, Deborah Latour of North Chelmsford, MA, Karen Roy of North Chelmsford, MA, Renee and Christopher Callery of Hudson, NH, Pamela Breuer and her husband Robert of Chelmsford, nephews Jay Latour of Denmark, ME, and David Parks and his wife Caroline of Westford, MA. I am so sorry for your loss.
I have known Hazel and her sister for too short of a time. The time I did have with Hazel and her sister was so enjoyable. They both had the devil in them and was always laughing and happy. The family will miss Hazel so much but remember she is out of pain and smiling down at all of you.

I just found out about Hazel passing.
Karen and I (and our kids) just got to know her over the past year plus through the church. She was always terrific to talk with, and had plenty of stories.
She was good with the kids and was a generous soul.
Our prayers go out to the Thompson family.
