5782 Ivonkovich5782 Ivonkovich WebIrene G. Ivankovich was taken from the world suddenly on Friday, April 29, 2016 after 89 full and wonderful years. Born to Mary Rubel and Peter Pietrewicz in Dickson City, PA, Irene was the youngest and last surviving child of six siblings, Peter, Marie, Stella, Pearl, and Lenny. Irene met the love of her life, Metro (Mit) Ivankovich in high school and the two were married in 1946 soon after he returned from serving in World War II. Irene and Mit settled in Binghamton, NY raising their family, son, Michael Paul Ivankovich, and daughter, Lynn Marie Caffrey.

After raising her beloved children, Irene returned to work where her dedication and commitment to excellence allowed her to shine in her 20+ years of service to the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. But more than work, Irene loved living life to the fullest. Irene loved spending time with her family, polka dancing with Mit, and enjoying the company of friends. She was eternally dedicated to the Holy Spirit Church in Binghamton. Irene loved to travel the world, exploring the US with Mit via their RV, and even traveling as far as Panama, Alaska, and Europe with friends and family. When she couldn’t travel as far, she loved pouring over travel stories and photos from her kids and grandkids. Irene also loved playing games. Whether playing shuffleboard or dominoes, solitaire, or working at her son’s auctions, she greatly valued the time with others.

After moving to Westford, she attended St. Catherine’s Church in Westford. She also looked forward to Thursday nights when she enjoyed Bingo with her daughter at St. John the Evangelist Church in N. Chelmsford. Although she didn’t always win, that didn’t stop Irene from regularly attending, where she always won friends and brought luck to others.

Irene had a gift for loving people. She treated everyone like they were a member of her family. She was an incredible listener, and impressively open, accepting, and understanding. She made life fun, and always approached it with a warm heart and a smile. She was humble and grateful, independent, helpful, generous, and kind. In short, she was (almost) perfect.

Irene is beloved and survived by her son, Michael and his wife Susan Ivankovich of Doylestown, PA; daughter Lynn and her husband Kevin Caffrey of Westford, MA; by her six grandchildren and their respective spouses: Megan (Toby), Jenna (Josh), Brendan, Dan (Dawn), Nash (Kara), and Lindsey (Jake) and four great grandchildren, Jake, Kayla, Avery and Gianna.

Irene’s family and friends mourn her loss, but more importantly, they celebrate the powerful impact she has made on each of their lives, and know she will always be with us.

Dear Mike, Lynn and Family…Our deepest sympathy at the loss of your mom. We are so very sad to hear that she has been taken from us and we will miss her deeply. We have also lost our very special Aunt Renie and are filled with sadness. She was such an friendly, vibrant sole and we will always have the fondest memories of her as well as the memories of Aunt Renie and Uncle Mit together. They were quite a wonderful pair together. We are sending a donation to the Emerson Health Care Foundation in memory of your mom. We wish we could be there for the services but please know that Aunt Renie is in our thoughts and prayers. We will also be praying for God’s healing grace upon the entire family to heal your hearts. God Bless you all. Sending our love. Joe, Joan and Terri Hanicak
