Isabel (DeFreitas) DeCaires of Lowell, MA died Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at her home.
She was married to the late Jose P. DeCaires.
Born in Portugal, she immigrated to the United States in 1970 settling in the Lowell area with her husband and family. She was the daughter of the late Luis and Maria DeFreitas. She was educated in Portugal.
Isabel retired from Teradyne Connection Systems of Nashua, NH in 1995. She had previously worked for Carol Shoe Corp. of Lowell MA.
She was a communicant of St. Anthony Church of Lowell.
Isabel enjoyed sewing, embroidering and having conversations over coffee with her family and friends. Her greatest love was caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren; many of whom she help raise.
She is survived by four sons, Cristodio “Chris” and his wife Isabel Caires of Lowell, Joe and his wife Maria Caires of Dunstable, and Adelino Caires of Lowell; two daughters, Lisa and her husband William Van Dinter of Lowell and Celestina and her husband Joseph Silva of Lakeland, FL; a daughter-in-law, Maria Caires of Chelmsford; a sister, Lucinda DeFreitas of Madeira Portugal; a brother, Juvenal DeFreitas of Madeira Portugal; ten grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Isabel was the mother of the late Patrick Caires of Chelmsford, who died on December 26, 2017, and the sister of the late Antonio, Maria, Adelaide, Amaro, and Luis.
The family would like to thank the professional staff of Assoc. Home Care Inc.; the Merrimack Valley Hospice, and Elder Services of Merrimack Valley for their care and comfort they provided Isabel.
Visiting hours Thurs., Feb 18, 2021 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral Fri., Feb 19, 2021 at 8AM from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 106 MIDDLESEX ST., CHELMSFORD, with a funeral Mass at 9AM at St. Anthony Church in Lowell. Burial in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford. Memorials may be made in her name to the a contribution to a college fund for her granddaughter, Hayden to Edward Jones C/O Hayden Caires, 6 Alpine Ln., Chelmsford, MA 01824.
