Dr. James (Jim) Pepper, 85, of Nashua, NH, passed away peacefully February 2, 2024. He was devoted husband of the late Margaret J. MacLeod. He will be remembered as a lifelong learner who valued humility and levity.

Born in Ashland, PA, Jim was the son of George Pepper and Anna Haley. He graduated from St. Joseph’s High School, setting the stage for a life of academic and professional achievement. Jim earned his BS in Chemistry from Mount St. Mary’s College in Maryland and later graduated from Jefferson Medical School in Philadelphia, PA, with residency at Misericordia Hospital in Philadelphia, and fellowship at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Dedicating his career to internal medicine with a specialization in endocrinology, he served as the director in practice at Chelmsford Medical Associates. He also practiced and served on the boards at Harvard Vanguard Medical and Lowell General Hospital. After he retired, he continued to attend Grand Rounds.

Outside of his medical career, Jim was a passionate Boston sports fan, especially the Red Sox. He loved explaining strategy and player history during Red Sox games. Jim was always curious and encouraged those around him to be as well. He enjoyed reading about World War Two or the latest scientific discovery. And he showed affection by cutting out relevant newspaper clippings that he would annotate. But more than anything, he was happiest with his family, whether it was on beach trips, or downhill skiing adventures.

Jim is survived by his loving family, children Debbie and Carl Dougherty of ME, James Jr. and Shawnee Pepper of CO, Paul and Paula Pepper of MA, Karen and John Mumford of NH and Eric and Renee Libby of MI; siblings Edward and wife Lana of MO, Catherine Pepper of PA; Grandchildren Katharine, Liam, Caroline, Maegan, Emily, Benjamin, Brody and Nathan; numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his siblings George, John, and Jeanne Reiley.

His legacy of compassion, dedication, and love for family and knowledge will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
