5457 KinneyJames “Jim” W. Kinney, 86, of Merrimack, NH formerly of Lowell, MA died Thursday March 5, 2015 after a brief illness.

He was married to Constance (Waaramaa) Kinney with whom he would have celebrated their 15th anniversary in April.  He was predeceased by his first wife, Eleanor (Daniels) Kinney who died October of 1991.

Born in Chelmsford, MA, he was a son of the late Guy and Georgina Kinney. He graduated from Lowell High School with the Class of 1946. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in communication from Boston University.

During the Korean War, he served in the US Army.

He worked as Salesman at many area newspapers including the Lowell Sun, the Nashua Telegraph and Gloucester Times.  In his early years he worked at G.E. in Lynn, MA and taught English at Winchendon High School. He was also a National Park Ranger in Lowell.

Jim was a member of the Lowell High School Track team.  During his senior year, he placed 2nd in the 1 mile at the 1946 New England Championship Finals.

He also was a member of St. John’s Masonic Lodge of Boston, MA, the Lowell YMCA Alumni Association. He enjoyed running, genealogy and attending his grandchildren’s events.

Jim was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Merrimack, NH.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons and their wives, James and Heather Kinney of San Diego, CA, Edward and Susan Kinney of Pembroke, NH; a daughter and her husband, Susan and Christopher McNamara of Haverhill, MA; a stepson and his wife, Eric and Leigh Ann Waaramaa of Melrose; a stepdaughter and her husband, Tina and Michael Leskouski of Bedford, MA; a brother and his wife, Guy and Reva Kinney of Camp Verde, AZ; two sisters, Georgina Kinney and Esther Elkins both of Lowell, MA; 8 grandchildren and 5 step grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Kinney of Flagstaff, AZ

Visiting hours Monday 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 106 Middlesex St., Chelmsford, MA.  Funeral Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Tyngsboro Evangelical Congregational Church. Burial in the Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell, MA .   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the Lowell YMCA, 35 YMCA Dr. Lowell, MA 01852.  ARRANGEMENTS BY DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 978-251-4041.

    Jim was a good and wonderful man. He always had a smile and a good story at coffee after church. It is a sad time for Connie, but Jim will live on in our hearts. We will be with Jim at rest soon enough after his purpose for us ends. May God give Connie the comfort that only he can give.
