Jared Finnegan, 66, of Chelmsford, MA died peacefully Tuesday, November 7,at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston surrounded by family after fighting a courageous battle with heart failure.

He is survived by his devoted wife Suzzanne Finnegan, who lovingly supported him throughout the years and stood by his side.

Born in Lowell, he was the son of the late Blair and Joan Finnegan. He graduated from Chelmsford High School with the class of 1969, and Norwich University with a B.S. in Science and Nutrition.

Jared retired from the Chelmsford Police Department after 20 years of service. While with the police department, he served as an undercover narcotics Detective working with the Drug Task Force.

In his early years, he was a Physical Education teacher for Chelmsford Public Schools. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family at their home on Newfound Lake in New Hampshire, watching Patriots football, and taking his grandchildren to Disney World. He will fondly be remembered as larger than life, driving his big red pick- up truck, helping with home repairs, and mowing his lawn with a cold beer in his hand. He loved to torment car salesmen and convince his grandchildren that he was a cliff diver.

Condolences to Sue & the entire Finnegan family on the loss of Jared. Worked with him at CPD for close to 20 years, & can honestly say I had the most heartfelt laughs with him about things that happened on the job. He was an old school cop who was always the first to step up when we needed that volunteer to knock on the door or grab the bad guy. Though big & burly, he was easy going & helpful to me as a young patrol officer. RIP Jared.

To the Finnegan family, my deepest condolences. Jared was a brother police officer, a friend, and a caring and kind person. I worked with his two brothers Blair and Jimmy throughout the 70’s & 80’s. When hurricane Bob hit Massachusetts Jared was kind enough to let me use his pick up truck to clean up after the storm. Jared was the most kind and generous person you could ever know, willing to help anyone in need. My three brothers were also Police Officers with the town of Chelmsford. Jared was truly one of a kind and will surely be missed by all of us who had the privilege and honor of knowing him and his family. Respectfully, retired Chelmsford police officer Daniel Walsh and family.

My condolences to the entire Finnegan family. Jared and I were next door neighbors on Oak Hill Road in the late 1980s when Michael and Jarra were very little (and the Great Dane was VERY big!). Those were wonderful times on that little cul de sac that Jared built. Jared certainly was full of life, and he was a wonderful friend and neighbor. My thoughts and prayers are with you. So sorry that I and my son Jay were unable to attend the wake or funeral. I worked with him at the Harrington school in which Jared was my partner in the teaching of elementary children. The students would be so shocked to see Jared drop his tooth in talking to the students in the class. He
was such a fun loving character and I will always remember his smile and laughter. My thoughts and prayer as well as sympathy to all of those who loved him so deeply and dearly.

I offer my sincere sympathy for the tragic loss of your dear loved one, Jared. Take comfort in Jesus’ promise found at John 11:25,” I am the resurrection and the life. The one who exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life.”
We also find the hope of seeing our dear loved ones again by means of the resurrection at John 5:28,29; “Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out…” May you find comfort in these promises, and for more information please visit jw.org
