5885-fletcherJason Fletcher, a beloved family man, teacher and coach, passed away peacefully in his home September 27th 2016.

Whether you knew him as “Bubs” “Bubba J” “J-bird” or “Daddy”, Jason was a remarkable people person.  His laughter, genuine kindness, and unbelievable big heart are a tragic loss for his family and the community.

Jason has deep roots in Chelmsford, Massachusetts living in town most of his life. Born in 1973, to Jack and Mary Jane Fletcher Jason attended Chelmsford public schools, Ithaca College, and UMass Lowell. Jason was an excellent football and hockey player throughout high school and college.

In 1998, Jason began an incredible career in education. As a teacher and coach, Jason inspired kids to achieve more than they thought possible by demanding that they believed in themselves. His passion for his work in the classroom will be missed deeply by all of his SEEM Collaborative family where he worked for 18 years. Jason’s loss will also be felt by the students and teachers at Chelmsford High School where he spent the better part of his life on one of many athletic fields.

“Bubba” will also be deeply missed during Wednesday night cards and Motorcycle weekend by his countless friends who shared a lifetime together.

Jason will be missed most by his adoring family. His wife Tara Fletcher and daughter Abigail will miss his smooches, hugs, and cuddles beyond imagination.  The house owned by his loving parents, Jack and Jane Fletcher will have a fewer jokes and one or two less fights about athletics at Chelmsford High School. Jason’s loss will be felt by his sisters Kelly Pitts and her husband Edward Pitts, Katie Garcia and her husband Christopher Garcia, and his beloved brother Todd Fletcher who shared an extraordinary bond as siblings. Jason’s favorite chair will sit empty at the house of his adoring in laws Alex and Kathy Souleotis of Chelmsford. His brother-in-law Kenneth Souleotis will miss Bubba’s ability to lighten up his sister at a moments notice. Ben Pitts, Julia Pitts, Caroline Pitts, Maya Garcia, and Julian Garcia are devastated by the loss of their Uncle Bub’s who would take them boating on Lake Winnipesaukee, water skiing and the fine art of buying junk at yard sales. Jason will also be missed by numerous Aunt’s, Uncle’s, Cousins, Nana, and Grampy.

Visiting hours Fri. 3 to 7 P.M. Funeral Sat. at 8A.M. from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD, with a funeral Mass at 9A.M. at St. Mary Church. Burial in the West Chelmsford Cemetery, Chelmsford. Memorials may be made in his name to the Fletcher Family Fund, c/o Lowell Five, 23 Fletcher Street, Chelmsford, MA 01824. I am so sad to hear this news. Jason was such fun to have as a student in class and I am certain that those same qualities made him a wonderful and caring teacher.
I regret that I am away on business and won’t be back till after the funeral
Jack, and cannot imagine the amount of grief you are dealing with, but please remember that you raised a really great kid who everybody loved. He possessed the best qualities of you and your wife. He loved who you are and in his own way tried his best to emulate you.

My deepest condolences to the Fletcher family. Jason and I were classmates in Chelmsford many years ago. In recent years I enjoyed “seeing” him on Facebook. Jason was a one of a kind. He was so funny and just as kind – he never met a stranger. We are all better for having known him and we can all stand to steal a play or two from his life’s playbook. To Tara and Abby: I never met you but through Facebook I feel I can see how wonderful your family was. How Tara seemed to match Jason perfectly and how much fun you three seemed to have with each other. I hadn’t seen Jason in years and yet I felt like I got punched in the gut when I heard the news – I can’t imagine how those closest to him feel. Like many countless other people – when I think of Jason I think of his huge, undeterred smile. His happiness was contagious. I can see that same light and happiness beam from his daughter Abby’s photos on Facebook and in her smile Jason lives on. I was a hockey statistician when Bubba and I were in high school. I remember that when we would lose and Coach Jack got on the bus for the return trip, you could hear a pin drop. Jack would chew the guys out (putting it mildly) and I would look back and everyone looked solemn and let’s face it scared (Coach could be a little scary when they lost) but then I’d glance at Jason and he would still have this huge smile on his face – he couldn’t help it. Always made me smirk and laugh to myself. He had a gift for people for sure. This loss is immeasurable and I’m so sorry.

Please know that I will always have such a fond memory of Jason and that he, and your family will always be very close to my heart.

What a very sad day. A loss for so many, Jason touched so many with his big loving spirit and non-judgemental ways! He recently guided me with some help for one of my own children and also more importantly disliked the town I now live in because of sports 😉 everyone who has connected with him has been better for it, no doubt! I did get a chance to meet his daughter briefly – who seems to be his double with that huge smile!! Rest well.

This is beyond upsetting and such saddening news. I had his father Jack Fletcher as my math teacher for 3 years at CHS. I grew up down the street from Jason’s Grandfather and Great Grandfather, and I was their paperboy too. A great family that always made you feel welcome. I ran into Jason quite frequently since my return to town in 2008 after a 16 year hiatus. He always had a great smile and was a pleasure to chat with. My condolences to all family and friends of Jason “Bubba” Fletcher.

    To the Fletcher Family:

I’m so saddened by the sudden loss ofyour beloved Jason. When I heard the news yesterday, the 1st image in my mind was of a young Jason in the late 80’s at CHS who’s seemingly shy smile made everyone a friend. That is how I will always remember him.

To Coach Fletcher and his wife: You raises a wonderful boy into a kind, loving, gentle and selfless young man. You’re not supposed to go throught what you’re going through now. It’s not the natural profession we yearn for. My heart breaks for you. Thank you for sharing your son with all of us.

To Jason’s siblings: I lost my sister 4 years, 3 months and 3 days ago. Its a crusing blow to your trust in the lie that everything happens for a reason, to lose a sibling. Nothing in life prepares you for it, it’s not something we ever consider, and it takes a long time to get over it…on faxt, I’m not sure you ever do. I’m sincerelt sorry for your loss.

To Jasons frienss amd team lates: Tell stories, speak of him often, and don’t ever feel like you shouldn’t bring him up in a moment when everyone is smiling and happy. Don’t feel like you’ll bring them down with a memory. Or that you’ll remind someone he’s gone. His family won’t ever forget and they want to remember him. In the days, weeks and months ahead, they need to know you remember him.

To Tara: Everthing I’ve read here is that you two were made for each other. I’m so very sorry that your love story had such a tragic end. Thank you for loving Jason and making him so happy and letting him be him.

To Abby: Your Daddy was an amazing man who loved you more than life itself. Everyone I’ve talked to these last few days has con formed that. Don’t ever think he isn’t with you. He will be forever.

With sincerest condolences and deepest sympathy.

Jason and I went to elementary school together and I hadn’t seen him since I moved in the 6th grade. I thought of him often though throughout the years, which might sound strange. However, that boy I knew was so kind, and sweet, and a little goofy, with a great laugh. He was one to be remembered and I always hoped he had a beautiful life. It sounds like he did. I’m so sorry that he is no longer with us. He left an impression on me and so many I’m sure. May the memories he made stay close to your hearts. I haven’t seen this person for 30 years, but I’m sad to hear of his passing. That speaks to lives he touched all through his short life. My most sincere condolences.

    Fletcher Family,

I’m not even sure where to begin… There are so many kind words that I’ve already read in these condolences, but I know that as good as they may make you feel, nothing will ever replace having Jason with you.
I just want to take a minute and reflect about the amazing person that Jason was. He had an unmatched ability to make everyone feel welcome and loved. No matter how often I saw Bubs he would take the time to make me feel welcome, loved and like the most important thing in his life at that moment. The most amazing thing is that he made everyone feel that same way. His incredibly outgoing personality, love of life and sincere caring for everyone around him will forever be remembered.
I can’t even put into words the loss that you must feel, but please know that Jason has touched every one of us like no one else could. He was and always will be an amazing friend, family man, coach, teacher and person. I realize that the loss we feel will never match the loss being felt by his immediate family, but please know that we all mourn with you and will remember Jason forever. I’m thankful for the time that I did get to spend with Jason and for the incredible impression that he left on our entire family. I know that he will always be with us in spirit and that his glowing smile and personality will never fade.
Bubs… Thanks for being such a great friend to our family! You will forever be missed!

I cannot find the words to describe the type of man that Jason Fletcher was. Jason was more than a teacher for me, for a short period of my life he had an immeasurable impact on the man I’ve become today. Jason Fletcher was a teacher, in a school full of kids who were labeled, shuffled through the system, thrown away, or just plain given up on. Jason was a man who went into work every day with one goal in mind; who can I help today? I sit here and write this choking up, knowing the kind of man Jason was, and the impact he had on me in such a short amount of time is nothing compared to the impact he has had on some other lives. I can only hope that one day, I am able to touch someone’s life, the way he touched mine. Rest easy Bubba…know that you’re thought about with laughs and smiles, and the tears are just a sign of how much everyone loved you.

Dear Jane, Jack and all your family, As everyone feels, how sad. My deepest sympathy to the family. As I read thru all these wonderful notes, anyone who reads them will know exactly the kind of person Jason was. All these years I have known Jason he would always greet me with a big smile followed by a big hug. Moving away from Chelmsford, I had not seen him in awhile, well, just a couple of months ago, he had written something funny on face book pertaining to the high school years getting in trouble, of course I chimed right in to answer. Well, didn’t he answer right back saying hello and thanked me for always being there for “my Bubba’s”. He brought tears to my eyes as I have right now writing this. I will keep all of you in my prayers and know God will give you the special graces you all need to get thru this very hard time. I know you will all keep the wonderful memories you have. Although I had only known Jason for a short time, the news of his passing came as a complete shock. Along with Tara, Jason coached my daughter Nora’s very first softball team, The Lightening, this past spring. The first time I met Jason I knew right away that he was one-of-a-kind. His smile was infectious and I could tell immediately that he had a heart of gold. Jason made such a huge impact on Nora from the beginning and she always looked forward to seeing him at the field. His ever-encouraging attitude and ability to make every kid a winner are things that you just don’t see everyday. Reading the memories that others have shared have only hit home what I already knew about Jason just from the short time I had known him. His absence is sure to leave an immense void in the community. Rest easy, Coach! Tara and Abby, you are in my thoughts.

I’m shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Jason’s sudden passing. You could always tell when he was visiting at the lake because his smile would light up the beach. He will be missed!

    Dear Fletcher Family,

I am so sorry to hear of Jason’s passing. I hadn’t seen him since high school, but our paths had crossed many times over the last 6 months. It was no different when seeing him, always a huge smile and a hi Kel. On the first day of gymnastics for our girls, I watched him as he watched his daughter through the window. You could see in his face the joy he got from her, and how much love he had for her. Rest in peace Jason, your bright smile will be missed by all.

    To The Fletcher Family,

I did not know your Son, my Niece, Katie, is friends with his Sister, in California. We all grew up in Chelmsford and attended CHS, myself, much earlier! I am so saddened to hear of the passing of such a young, vibrant, accomplished man! My condolences to his Family, Friends and Students.

    Tara, Abby and Fletcher Family,

I am so sorry for your incredible loss. Not that you would be surprised, but I too loved Jason’s infectious smile and his true ability to light up a room with his mere presence.

One of my great memories of Jason was when I was honored to be able to stand at the podium when he was receiving my father’s memorial award when he was a senior in high school. He accepted the award and then immediately turned to give my sister and I a hug which also came along with his famous wink and thumbs up!

I have no doubt that in the very near future his beautiful daughter Abby will one day be handing out an award to another deserving athlete in her Dad’s honor.

Rest in peace Jason. You have obviously touched thousands of people’s lives including mine.

Dear Jack and Family, My deepest condolences to you and your entire family on the unexpected passing of your son. Jack, although its been 10 years since I worked with you and the CHS athletic office. I still remember your humor and kindness toward me. I loved working with you and Carole and photographing all the sports Teams. Although I never met your family I just knew you had to have one beautiful and Happy family, because you were always so kind to me with a one of a kind personality. Dear Jack and Jane, having returned from your beloved son Jason’s wake tonight I wanted to share a few thoughts with you. Hopefully they will provide a little comfort to you. I have never witnessed anything like this level of tribute for anyone who has passed. Never anything even close to what I saw tonight. It wasn’t only the seemingly endless line of people waiting to share their love of Jason and condolences to you and to all of his family. What I saw in people’s eyes, past the grief and sadness was an amazing level of pride and gratitude for Jason. For the way that he lived his life. For everyone who he made better. For everyone who he supported, taught, guided and encouraged. He will be remembered always for the way that he lived his life. These memories will be eternal. So as we share in your sadness and grief please alow us to also share in what must be your great pride for this truly remarkable young man.

I wanted to express my heartfelt condolences to the Fletcher family. There’s such a sense of helplessness when someone we love dies. I’d like to share some scriptural thoughts that really helped me. Prayer is so valuable at this time, but it’s not that prayer simply makes us feel better. 2 Cor. 4:7 says that God can give us, “… power beyond what is normal “, to go from one day to the next. This does not mean that we no longer cry or that we forget, but it means we recover. The reason we recover is because of our hope. Jesus Christ talked about our hope in John 5:28, “…all those in the memorial tomb will hear his voice and come out “. Jesus was referring to the resurrection; this is our hope that helps us recover and gives us power to go on.
2 Cor. 1:3 describes our Creator as, “… the God of all comfort “. One way that God comforts us is by moving people who care about us to give us words of encouragement that we need to hear. May God (Ps. 83:18) grant you peace and comfort now during this time of sorrow.

Jack, Jane, Todd and the entire Fletcher family. Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss. My thoughts and Prayers are with you all during this difficult time. The one memory I recall of Jason was getting Todd out of the locker room for an interview after he had great game. After the interview was completed I remember Jason putting Todd in a headlock and asking him if he was a superstar now ? Jason obviously was proud of his brother but made sure he gave him the business. He always had a smile on his face. Win or Loss. – Jim Collins
