John Alan “Jack” Flavell, 84, of Nashua, NH, got up and kicked his heels every day until Friday, December 30, 2022. He will be missed beyond words.
He was married to Pamela “Pam” (Spinney) Flavell with whom he would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on February 3rd, 2023.
Born in Lowell, MA, and raised in North Chelmsford, he was the son of the late Chester J. Flavell and Corinne G. (House) Flavell.
He graduated from Chelmsford High School, Chelmsford, with the class of 1958.
He served as a Marine during the Vietnam era from 1960-1964 in the Marine Reconnaissance Force. While in the Marines, he studied computer science.
His career spanned decades, beginning with starting up and developing a successful company in the field of computer systems integration. He and Pam lived in Westford, MA for 28 years, and retired to Las Vegas, NV, where they lived for 23 years. Recently, they returned to New England to be closer to their family.
He served as Chairman of the Board of Selectman of Westford, MA and was a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Masons – completing the Scottish Rite to become a Shriner, and the American Legion, where he spent countless hours volunteering.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, John Alan “Jay” Flavell, Jr. and his wife Sheri of Chelmsford, MA; his daughters, Becky Marshall and her husband Steve of Nashua, NH, and Megan Symes and her husband Dan Cohen of Westford, MA; and his son-in-law John Symes of Merrimack, NH; eight grandchildren: Tommy Flavell, Katie Flavell, Jocelyn Marshall, Shannon Marshall, Maddie Symes, Kyle Symes, Sam Cohen, Zac Cohen, and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Eileen Masterman and Evelyn Fredericks.
The world is a little darker without his exuberant presence. Anyone that knew him, knew he loved the flag and everything it represents. He spent each day dressed to the nines, shopping for a good deal for all the ones he loved.
Memorial Service on Monday, January 9, 2023, at 11am at DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 106 MIDDLESEX STREET, N. CHELMSFORD, MA. Burial in Fairview Cemetery, North Chelmsford immediately after. Memorials may be made in his name to The Wounded Warrior Project.
